This term for a long handled gardening tool can also mean an immoral pleasure seeker

you think it'd be ho....but its not its a rake? WTF!? I had never heard rake used in that context before but I searched dictionary.com and there are 2 definitions of rake

    1.rake
    n.
A long-handled implement with a row of projecting teeth at its head, used especially to gather leaves or to loosen or smooth earth.
A device that resembles such an implement.

    2rake
    n.
An immoral or dissolute person; a libertine

Sadly, I knew about rake... and I would have answered 'ho anyway...and I would have known it was wrong...because 'ho and hoe is spelled differently.

Yeah, 'rake' is new to me. I know of the tool, but not the person.

I remembering having a discussion in grade 10 English class... I can't remember the title of the book, but the main character was a tomboy who called herself Scout.

That's the only reason why I know anything at all of rake.

I think you're talking about "To Kill a Mockingbird". I don't remember that part, but knew that usage of rake anyways.

Yup. We had a whole class discussion on women who were overpowered by rakes (aka rape) we at fault. Women were supposed to be chaste for their man, and its in a rake's nature to be a rake, so the woman was blamed for the rape. The odd thing is once women loosened the patriarchy (no way can I say overthrow, you've still got a few centuries before that happens), the stance on rape in courts changed.

When women were "objects", rape was a serious offence. Twenty years easily, sometimes reaching up to fifty. The more independant they got, the shorter and shorter the sentence for rape became. Now, it's what? Five years, three on good behaviour?
