Thread: Carrying knives. What do you think about it...

I carry a generic switchblade (3 inch blade, 6in long) around for utilitarian stuff and a KA-BAR boot knife (8 inch fixed blade, 13in long) around cause its fun to play with.

I don't show or use the KA-BAR in public unless I need it cause it ALWAYS freaks people out - and the switchblade freaks people out too cause it always just sorta appears in my hand lol.

I generally carry a 5-inch fixed blade. Never used it, hopefully I'll never need to.

I don't carry knives,cuz i carry a iron fist in my pockets

I tend to carry around a 2.5 inch pocket knife, 2.5 inches folded, and very nice. It is not for defense, but merely for practical use (which actually pop up a lot living on my own). If I was defending myself, my namesake will do me more than well enough.

wow. For some strange reason, it never occured to me that people could carry concealed guns. In NJ, no guns are allowed on a person, so its something that never came up growing up, I suppose.

This seems so terribly stupid. How do you spell "twitchy" ? I think that allowing people to carry guns in public is incredibly stupid; the concept just boggles my mind. O.O

Its the people who DON'T conceal the guns you have to worry about.

Note that if you want to hunt or keep guns in the house for personal protection its acceptable by me.

Hmmm, I just don't see it that way. The fact that someone is armed, and will therefore not be an easy mark to rob, automatically makes mugging harder. If more people were armed, I think crime would go down. For instance, Switzerland has a very low crime rate because a large portion of the populace is armed, making it not worth it for criminals to attack people. England, on the other hand, has had a steadily increasing crimerate since guns were outlawed. There was even a scandal, where British police would try to manipulate data given on crime by not classifying a crime as a "violent crime" unless more than 100 pounds were stolen, or someone was taken to the hospital, even if weapons were used in the crime. All that I see will happen from a disarmed populace, is law abiding citizens who don't carry guns, and criminals who don't care about breaking the law, and do carry guns. Mix those together, and you get a bad combination.

still, id rather not get shot by a twitchy person for no apparent reason. And you leave out the point that if guns werent allowed, there wouldnt be those violent crimes to begin with...

The reason for a concealed carry permit is to keep the "twitchy" people from carrying guns. You have to pass some very stringent tests to get the liscense, and believe me, no irresponsible person could get the liscense. And I had clarified the point about guns not being allowed in my last post, at the end. I said that criminals will still be able to get weapons illegally on the black market, but law abiding citizens would not have weapons. That just makes regular people at the mercy of those criminals. And there have always been and will always be violent crimes commited, but allowing regular people to carry arms helps level the playing field, and makes people less tempting targets to rob.

Anyone know of the black market? I can get a gun from a dude across the street...shesh... just have to pay 'em well.
