The only worth thing watch in FLCL is the robot. Whatever he does is hilirous. That and probably the last episode. Other then that it's like watching a show in a foreign laguage with no subtitles.
Before Adult Swim rolled around, cartoon network had experimented with the Adult Line up. For instance, Cartoon Planet, which debuted in 92, I believe, while not entirely adult, was still aimed at an adult audience, and took a satirical view at modern society, something children's shows generally avoid. I also remember that O! Canada was on long before Adult Swim, and that show was just........ odd....... I still remember when I was 5 or 6, and I'd get mad at night when Cartoon Planet came on, cause it was the equivalent (For me at the time) of watching Talk shows.
Coincidentally, I also saw the premier of ATHF at 4 a.m. Central Time a few years ago, by complete mistake. I believe it was 2000, sometime around Spring, and I couldn't sleep. So I got up, went downstairs to my sorta basement thingy (I was at my Dad's house), and of course, he was playing Diablo. So anyways, I flip on the 'tube, and the first thing I remember seeing was Birdman in a lawyers suit. I changed the channel, and found "Oh yeah! Cartoons", which I quickly got bored of. I later changed the channel back, and as luck would have it, Sealab was on. The guy with the white hair was bitching about muffin mix or something (My memory of the incident is hazy, but I still remember him going "I'm gonna get the asshole who took my muffin maker!"). After that, ATHF came on. For those of you who don't know, the original pilot apparentley had some extra scenes, some of which I still vividly remember. For instance, there is a scene during the Rabbot fight wherein Shake is getting his hair cut, and he says to the barber "I hate a lot of things. People. Stupid people. Dancing. Stupid people dancing... ya know". Anyways, I asked my Dad what it all was, and he said that I would probably never see it again. It was 2 and a half years later, when I was talking to my friend, John Kinkaid, that I discovered that ATHF was now a series, with 5 whole episodes. I look back and scoff at my Dad.
O! Canada wasn't odd. It sucked. Before Adultswim you had Cartoon Planet and a whole bunch of crap (Dr. Katz, Duckman both are terrible). Adultswim brought Space Ghost (or more that I think about it Space Ghost made Adultswim) and Home Movies (previous work was Dr. Katz). Both of which they would play over and over again. Along with those annoying commericials with the old people and lifeguard telling everyone to get out of the pool. In my opinion Adultswim peaked around 2001-03. That was the first few seasons of ATHF, SpaceGhost was around but on the decline, good anime (trigun and blue gender), samurai jack (although not adultswim), sealab was in the early seasons and of course Futurama reruns (of which I think never get old).

FLCL is highly overrated.
