yeah, i have all my music consolidated from a different ripper, and then just import the 'music' directory into iTunes (cuz as far as organization goes, its a wonderful program).

    i've never had this problem.
i use itunes but i dont have an ipod so maybe thats why...
other than it not sorting albums by year in the app, i've had absolutely no problems with it.
what happened to make itunes delete all your stuff?

ipods dont last... even apple knows it and the technology while pretty is broken... it was in the NY Times a while ago... average life of an ipod... 19 months.

thats a decent amount of time, to be honest. I mean, for the very reasonable price of the hardware, thats not a horrible lifetime.

I only have a crappy MP3 player that doesn't last five days on one battery (five days = five hours? less?).

    ya .... i pods .. SUCK!!!
im using my 3rd one ... in less then a yr ...
only payed once, and returned it two times ... so i didnt lose any money, but ... agh!!

yippiee ... i feel like telling my ipod's life story .. so here it is XD
ipod#1: got it for my bday. went home all happy, totally ready to upload my songs. i opened the box, and i see the the screen is TOTALLY messed up. why i knew this? well here is the thing, my ipod was suposed to be a black&white ipod .... but the colors of the rainbow where running across the screan .... i mean ... it just didnt lool right!!!
well, so in a week, we went back to return the ipod, and i got a new on.

ipod#2: i was totally happy going home, thinking of all the songs im gonna upload. nd this time the sceen looked fine. yay for me. nywayz, after having the ipod for 3 months, it started to act strange ... started to lose its memory and ... and thats when i lost 700 of my songs. and the rest of the songs got messed up ... like they only played 30 sec. of the entire 3 mintues nd stuff ....

we called the the company nd after a looooong talk, they figured out that there might have been some problems with the hearddrive.
they told us the send it back nd that they will send a new ipod in return.

    nd that is wat happend.

ipod #3: iono ... bout a week after we sent the old one, this one arived. i put on some songs on it ... listened to it a couple of times too .... but now its sitting on my shelf for .... 3 months now.... gathering dust ... dust .. and mooore dust XD

... all of a sudden i feel like listening to it now XD haha

I find iPods are so convenient when they do work, which is most of the time, that they are worth the inconvenience when they do break, which is only occasionally. Besides, they look nifty, and the program sorts your music in something approaching a logical fashion.
