But for a while that rule hasn't really been followed, and there are many artifacts that prove that even though it is forbidden it has been done for centuries anyway.

God in bed with a brunette
    Jesus turning water into beer
Buddha surrounded by buckets of chicken wings

holy crap, if all the other religious are made fun of, what's the big deal"?

    Perhaps Muslims think they're special?

Actually the reaction to it killed a few people.

People got nuts when committing sacrilege agianst Christanity, and Islam's follower are more devote to thier religion as a whole then christian. It no wonder the Muslim community are piss off. The editor should have research better before allowing such a cartoon to be printed.
    1) The way I've always heard it, the Qu'uran never specifies no images of Muhammad; that's just one interpretation. Plus, it was Muhammad who came up with the whole "don't worship me so no pictures" idea...thus it's not technically the word of Allah. That is to say, the Muslims are wrong to be angry about an image of him.

    2) It's just a cartoon. It didn't hurt anyone.
Before answering your comment at some extend...
Is this wrong if I made an offensive cartoon and labelled it as "YOUR DAD"? I don't know what your dad looked like, and I don't know anything else, but if I do that, isn't that kinda the same thing which what happened in this case?
It's just a comparison in general... If you are angry about this, why can't you understand why those muslims are so angry about this?
The problem is not about the image. It's more into the insult.
I don't think freedom of speech could go into this far extend. It is true that we have freedom to express our ideas, but it is wrong to use this freedom into harrassing other people's freedom.
This insult is at the same level as those insults like "God is sleeping with a brunette", "Homosexual Jesus movie" and some other craps. Personally, I'd suggest that these craps must not be allowed.
Why Mohammad's cartoons made a big fuss? Because most of Islamic countries are not secular countries. That is why, they treat this thing differently.
If you want to see this kind of reaction happening, print out some offensive Jesus pictures with something and something, and spread that into a mormon town. I bet they will burn you in a stake.
Not that I wanna dis mormons or any other religion in general, but I wanna tell you this reaction is universal. People can be angered by personal attack on their belief.

Honestly, from what Iíve been reading. I think that the made this big fuss to cover up the bigger issue of their nuclear program. I donít think the cartoons are really a big deal at all. I think that Muslim society is so fanatical that a few people in power are able to make small issues into big issues to cover up what the big issue really is.

One, that is very clever , but two it is also very scaryÖ

In ways this is almost worse than the cold war..

Nah, the problem is.. in islamic countries, they are mostly muslims. It is a religion-based country.. so yeah, this kind of stuff can blow up similarly if you bring some offensive picture into Vatican or into a mormon village...

Those cartoons were needlessly inflammatory and should have been pulled at any of the numerous checks before publication. And if the government can interfere in the press, they should have. Fair and equal treatment is more important than anyone's right to publish racist crap. Don't try to hide behind a 'free' press. Besides, with tensions as high as they've been for the past several years, what idiot would even think the whole thing was a good idea?!
They all did think of it as a good idea, cuz Denmark is a very racistical (dunno how its spelled) country. It has been like that since the mid 90's. They even have this dude in the goverment who has admited that hes an racist, and hes always saying things about the muslims, "they do that they do this, they are destroying our country" and so on. I can't really remember his name though.

I was watching the Danish news yesterday (I live like 20kms from Denmark, so I get some of their TV channels) it's funny how they see Bush and the whole USA as "traitors", not really traitors but they feel backstabbed by Bush and even Tony Blair, they were showing a clip when the danish presisdent was talking with Bush in March 2004, Bush said that they are friends and friends are always there for each other. So the Danes are now showing those clips and are crying out for Bush to help them with the shit they brought upon them selves.
    Just pathetic.
