Thread: killing..

do you think it's wrong?


humm.. as you probably guessed I wanna know your oppinion on
this subject, wether you think it is wrong, if its okay to kill, wether its okay
to kill in certain situation or not in any.... if its okay to kill what ever
the scenario, why or why not.

This question was brought up in english class for our weekly debate last week
and immeditly everyone but me said,"no, its wrong," or,"your not supposed to,
you'll go to jail," and I begun to wonder why so many thought this way, I know
religion, fear, morality, etc creates that way of thinking but I was shocked to
find that I was the only one in that room that thought that killing is perfectly
acceptable. Even though I was trained to think this way when I was little by my
father, to think that way and they had not I still think that its odd that so many
would have reactions of that sort.

I also wondered why they keep saying killing is wrong yet many wouldn't think twice
about going to watch a boxing match and watching two men send his fist at another
with killing intent or send an army of people specificlly trained to kill upon
an order withought a second thought, yet sit back telling others killing is wrong...

um..... yeah, but back to the question now, how do you feel about killing and what
and what are your veiws on the subject, as for me i'll post my thoughts after a few post.

the reason we have such a basic negative reaction against killing is because of how ingrained the idea of "basic human rights" is to us. At its core, freedom is the primary principle in this. To take someones life is the ultimate degradation of their "inherent" freedom. This goes far in explaining why in other societies, present and past, killing was sometimes commonplace. "Basic human rights" simply didnt hold the same sway and meaning as it does today.

I believe in basic human rights. So I believe that killing is inherently wrong. I think I stand with many people when I say this.

I find it interesting that you think that killing is not wrong. Please explain.

justified killing is good, killing for or with honor is good, sneak attacks and killing for personal gain is bad.

Genocide is also bad.

killing for honor? what is honor? do you mean if someone shames you or puts you down, you kill someone to defend your honor?

killing is bad no matter what the reason is but it is kill or be killed i would rather kill. also if and only if i had to kill id rather kill an old person rather then somebody young because old people normally have less time to live.

no i mean like you shot my father on his way to the supermarket and i challenge you to a fight to the death to avenge his innocent life being lost. a clearly stated challenge is both justified and honorable

both of these are examples where I have failed on my end of our social contract. Having killed someone, I am forfeit to recieve the same benefits as those. Essentially, having taken away someone else's basic rights, I have given up my own.

I find killing to the best solution in certain scenarios for instance, genocide could be done to end a good amount of disease and to cut back on population, wouldn't it be possible to rid this planet of aids and/or other disease through this method alone? To gather all the people with the disease and simply dispose of them in space or using some other method. Not to mention reducing the population would lessen the strain on this planets natural resources and pollution.

I also find death matches between martial artist to find out who is better, good, being somewhat one myself I would understand why they would do that, and I could go on with a few more, over all I don't view killing as an act of evil, hatred, pleasure, but rather an act of do or don't. Should I be confronted with killing intent or should it solve a problem that can be solved by simply kill, then so be it.
