Default Why people can't use irc...

Has this ever happened to you before? Someone comes requesting a manga and insist that they CAN'T use IRC

That's right, that it's physically impossible for them to utilize a program known as Internet Relay Chat.

Is that actually possible? I'm just curious and want some opinions or some credible explanations to this phenomenon

    Mysterious, no?

ok, fool (in a more sarcastic sense). As one of those plagued by the inability to use IRC, I will educate you as to approximately why people like me cannot do so. For one, this almost exclusively affects people who are on a large, corporate or university network. Personally, my school does not allow it for various reasons, including the fact that a lot of illegal trafficing goes on on IRC and running IRC on a network has posed a security risk in the past, so networks such as these are wary of it. Stopping people from being able to access IRC is relatively simple for the network admin to do. There is no way around it while staying on the network (meaning: the only way around it would be to use an off-site proxy server which can be slow and dangerous).

So, thats pretty much the gist of it. hope that helps. The reason its such a big problem in communities like anime and manga is because the vast majority of the people who dl manga are of university age.

EDIT: now apply the same principles to BT and theres your other answer.

On irc you gotta set up your dcc pending and then have to remember lots of functions and what-not.
On BT you just have to use your mouse and simply open a file. And maybe open some ports on your router/firewall, but you gotta do that with irc also.

Forgot to mention that for me, no matter what I do I get dcc pending problems when trying to dl stuff. -_-

maybe it's because they simply don't want to use irc.

when i was using windows, i was using mirc.
but when i switched to mighty mac(im in heaven), i found out that there was nooo mirc whatsoever for mac os.

and i dont want to use some sappy irc client, thank you very much.

It looks like your comp is blocking the IRC port.
    Just speculation though.

    Also, for boopkit.
Fellow mac user, and you should go with KVIrc if you've got a newer os ver.
I had to wait untill I got X4.4 before I was able to use a program other than snack.
Which is quite good, but has one mother of a time-over shareware thing.
KVIrc is free, and it's kickass.
Only annoyance is inputting new servers -_-
