Default how do you keep up to date?

i posted regarding this matter on another site as well. well i didn't copy the entire topic, so it's technically not cross-posting i hope.

i have school and other things across my usual weekday so i tend to forget to check bakaupdates etc. i don't think i'm the only one that hates to not get the latest chapters asap.

my first question was, is there currently any automatic system that lets you know when a chapter is released?

i quickly made up this little page:

    http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/60/mtracker5xa.jpg

it's still pretty manual but it's better than browsing through my folders, then switching to firefox and running through bakaupdate's database.

i suppose i could use bakaupdate's RSS, but only shows me the latest releases, in a mixture of both the series i want and don't want to know about. if i wanted to check a release that's even a bit older, i have to do it manually.

i actually want to develop a program that sits in your taskbar. you can add/remove/edit manga(s) that you're reading. it would be like an itunes for manga? if new releases are out, it'll notify you.

my obstacle is a central server for the clients to connect to would be needed. i'm wondering if anyone's willing to help - in any way at all.

    please tell me your opinions.

    thanks

eh, well. i thought i'd bring it up as a general discussion rather than 'we-should-add-this-feature-to-ST.com' topic.

feel free to move it though, mods.

That's not a bad idea. A database that compares the latest releases to what you have currently stored would make things very convenient. You might also want to put an extra column indicating whether the latest release has been downloaded or not, or auto scripting it's deletion from the mTracker catalogue. Just my opinion though

Good luck with finding a server

absolutely. I always find myself going back and forth to see if I have the most recent in the series im pursuing. A program like this would be immensely useful.

I'll let this stay here though instead of moving it. enjoyz. =D [it'll last longer here anyway...]

Sounds like a great idea. Though, personally, I don't read enough manga for this program to really be useful to me.

i read the manga itd be insanely useful like right under the New Series/Updated Series/Completed Series lines it had a small window that scrolled the series and chapters that were updated recently. thatd be uberawesome-useful

i guess it would be no problem to start work on the client itself. but the database is one big issue.

would be miraculous if ST.com could host it. but i guess there's enough bandwidth being eaten as it already is. i might have to ask bakaupdates. even though i doubt they would allow an outsider but they already have a huge database, it would be a hassle to create anew.

i guess i'd have to see how that goes first
