The definition is way too broad. Even a 'you idiot' can get you into legal trouble.

I believe this was posted before the holy thermonuclear cleansing.

Anyway, I wonder how the hell they're going to enforce this.

Also, why is annoying someone over the internet different from annoying someone IRL?

Read the law, in its entirety, and make notice of the fact that this is an interactive computer service you're posting on.

I felt that this deserved a necro. The article I added gives an interesting twist to the law that is now a year old.

Why was a law that was supposed to regulate person to person talk(phone conversations for instance) changed to regulate things in the public domain(the internet), which is more akin to publishing than conversing?

Why was the law intentionally left vague, was it meant to be challenged, so that a court would have to rule on it and make it more concrete, or was it made as a precursor to other, more specific laws?

And, as pointed out in the article, does this not infringe on the right of free speech, and peaceful dissent?

Notice, this is not a political article, because this has far reaching effects that goes far beyond the boundries of the US, it could affect the internet itself. It is more a...protocol article. Yeah, that's it, protocol. And current events.

^ I thought politics wasn't taboo anymore, right?
The telecommunications statute prohibits anyone from using a telephone or a telecommunications device "without disclosing his identity and with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten, or harass any person."
Hmm...didn't yoko somehow call your sister or something Jakko?

I know that he isn't American, but it's amusing to know that he could have gotten 2 years had a variety of criteria been met.
