Thread: Is it fine to steal in order to feed your starving family?

Or do you believe that the end never justifies the means?

Personally, if it's for my family, I would do it. Or for someone sepcial to me. How about you guys?

If you steal from someone who doesn't need it to survive, then yes.

This is because the negative consequences for not stealing outweigh the negative consequences of stealing in this case.

Why would you do that jacob? your family owns 2 mals

Oh hell, I wouldnt steal.. stealing is still stealing and sure you could get something from your friends right? you could have even symphaty from the strangers or beg them to give you food, theres no need to steal

The situation you hypothesised is one in which law comes up against morals. So it depends on how you value those two.

well... not really laws against morals.... more of morals against morals against laws. for me i wouldnt steal because its wrong. not because i care anything about the 'law'. i have many problems with our 'laws' im sure everyone does. in fact, if i didnt think it was wrong i would steal just to piss off the 'law'. thats the kind of person i am.

its wrong. its not up to someone else to make your choices, its up to you. doing what you said would mean your ok with someone stealing your tv because they feel you dont watch it as much as you should. or someone punching you in the face because they think you need to be more humble. its not up to them to make such choices. they have mistakes just like any other human, and therefore are unfit to judge another. we fight for our freedom. our freedom to practice our own beliefs. doing this act is a violation against their freedom.

It could be yourself vs. others. Meh.

i steal cuz i want to (STEALdragon)... need is just a benefit. i wouldnt give it a second thought if it was for my family and i wouldnt care. when it comes to a situation like that -> "If you got it and i need it i want it."

I said that if they didn't need the extra food, then it's OK.

And that's absolutely not an accurate description of socialism at all. In fact, revisionist socialism does work, as all of western europe has demonstrated.

Somebody stealing my TV is not even remotely the same thing as somebody stealing to save his life and the life of his family. Your right to property is not worth more than somebody else's right to life.

If I was in that horrible of a circumstance, I probably would steal.

If I got caught, no worries. They feed you in prison.

I see a win-win situation.
