But that's just it, there's nothing cool about it, it's just another band wagon with people flocking to it.

Reddit, by virtue of its voting system, is intellectually nothing buy a giant circle jerk of obsequity; an echo chamber for people who like to hear the sound of their own opinions, a grandstand for the vain to show boat to popular opinion. Sure some interesting things will get posted, but you'll never have a meaningful balanced discussion there. So while you may think it's cool that the president held an AMA there, when you consider just how open to bias it is, I just see more ego stroking; I've got to wonder just how many probing questions got down voted into oblivion or how many republican leaning voters with important questions (which is an absolute imperative of a democracy) were silenced by populism.

Reddit isn't cool, it's shallow and inane.

I know I'm late to the party, but here goes it: there was actually an IAmA (on reddit) by a pedophile a while back. He said he had never touched a kid in a bad way, and that all he does is fantasize, but yeah, there are around, posting and commenting like anyone else. And there are actually dark, dark corners of reddit, off limits to us normal people, which are devoted to all kinds of nasty crap such as CP, and the like. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a subreddit for rapists and the like as well.

It scary, but it's just realize. And there is nothing we can really do about it.

And what 98 said definitely is true. All of the larger subreddits are basically circlejerks where only the Reddit Hivemind Opinion (tm) is upvoted. To enjoy reddit you really do have to take the time to look for the smaller, well-moderated (i.e. no sensationalized/editorialized submission titles) subreddits where people still follow reddiquette (sp?). Ultimately, it really is what you choose to make of it.

Jailbait was right around when I joined so I can't say much about that, but I was around for creepyshots. I just doin't go around subreddits that are questionable. I only really just glance at the front page now, and determine there's nothing worth looking into anyway.
