It isn't Chernobyl-level yet, it's only released about a tenth of the amount of radioactive material that was released at Chernobyl.

Still serious, but it's not remotely as serious because the spread of the material isn't as widespread. The most of the material is probably I-131, which has a halflife of about 8 days, and thus will decay away to irrelevant levels pretty soon.

Count on stupid people to wreck the possibilities of nuclear energy in America for the next forty years AGAIN. There goes the most reasonable way to power America...down the drain... look its swiiiiiiiiirrrrrrling. >

Wouldn´t call it reasonable...but better than having coal fueled power stations!
I´m all for renewable energy, if it´s properly done (that means we´ll have to wait some more years for it )

But I don´t think the USA will give nuclear energy up that easily.

The problem with renewables is that they are just not efficient enough. IIRC of all the wind farms (283 with 3153 turbines between them) in the UK they only ever work at 29% capacity and only provide 2% of our energy needs, compared to nuclear power which provides roughly 1/6 of our energy needs(with 9 stations sharing 19 reactors)). Wind energy is also roughly 3 times the price of nuclear energy.

Hydro electric is the way to go or maybe Superman farts.

What other alternative energy exist?

Well there is always geothermal.

Nuclear energy is pretty much the way to go now days. Well, assuming you live in a relatively geologically stable area, I guess.

Yeah, it is possible that we'll have major geothermal incidents. They're not going to be leaving much in the way of toxic waste though. Flip side is, I reckon putting stop-gaps on may not be quite so easy...
