Thread: PC vs MAC

So, are you a PC guy or a MAC guy? I had a hugeeeeee debate with some ppl today about this, and this is what I concluded:

Even as a person who is pursuing the field of multimedia, I freakin HATE Macs.

I don't like their OS, their keyboards, and especially their prices. There are few times I actually prefer using them over a PC but overall still prefer PC's.

I would only ever use it for multimedia related stuff. Everything else I hate.

I've kinda found the same thing in the Mac vs. PC debate. Most Mac users that I know are computer illiterate or hipster-wannabe types.

I am with Pc and go with pc

I judge you when you use macs

Macs are for FAGGOTS.

PC master race reporting in.
Better hardware: check
Lower price: check
Open platform: check
Forced into buying proprietary software because media industry types are still convinced that Macs are a must: Err, NOPE

Oh and for the record, if you think you're being hip by using a mac; enjoy being on your corporate dog leash and conforming to Apple's view of the world. Real hipsters go open source.

I prefer PC, but I don't share the hate for macs displayed here so far. I dislike macs since they are overpriced and have very restricted design practices as far as giving users freedom or creating robust/versatile software.

However, I do think the restricted design freedom and ecretiveness makes macs more durable than PCs. Also, I've noticed a strong constituency (maybe even a majority) among CS majors at my school that use Macs dominantly. Apple has targeted academia especially well, and I've noticed that even the majority of CS professors use macbooks though the Uni offers netbooks and laptops as alternatives.

I especially hate the fluff features of their designs though, like the flat keyboards which are small and ignore ergonomic discomfort or the one-button mouse. They're only there to set them apart from PC's and don't function as well as the default.

Mac a babies first PC. I did a post on fb saying Macs suck and man did I get spammed by people who did not know there ass from there elbows. It was funny.

They certainly do benefit from their closed platform approach, but the benefit is mainly for the developer not the user (although they qain indirectly from more stable software). This is simply down to the fact that there is much less variety in hardware and drivers.

As I mooted at before, the reason macs are so prevalent in the design world is because macs are synonymous with art and design. Before windows hit it big, the only real OS' that was capable of running graphics programs were Mac OS', so everybody used macs and the meme stuck. The reality nowadays is that PCs are far more powerful and cheaper and provided you look after your PC you won't have any problems.

I had a BSOD today, first time I can recall in about 2 years. Now if we had any Mac users here I'm sure they'd be rubbing their hands together, but unfortunately for them it was caused by a power surge, not the computer.
