Default The true goals of MangaHelpers

Last year, the MangaHelper's business plan was leaked in which the admins and staff members of MH were planning to make their site a pay-to-read site without asking the scanlation teams providing to their site about this idea.

After the leak, there were short announcements in which MH admin njt stated that to make MH the "crunchyroll for scanlations" and that this plan will be a benefit for the whole scanlation community.

Months later, there is no statement of MH wether did draw back from their business plan or not. After a while I found the person who leaked the business plan of MH last year and asked what MH is currently doing about it :

"They (MH) have invested a lot of money (35 000$) into that business plan and still try to go through with it. But now they talk with Kodansha about it, no more with VIZ. They have taken off the raws by Kodanshas request, now the talks with them about selling their site to them have commenced. The groups on MH that won't follow this plan will be prosecuted by Kodansha's legal department if they continue to work for free."

MH did lose most of it's endorsement by the community after their business plan became public last year. Then, they told everyone last month that they took down most of their raws because of the request of Shueisha. True is, that MH lost 40% of it's traffic after that, which mostly came from Japan. But it's also true that the business talks with Kodansha are now near to succeed after they fullfiled Kodanshas wishes.

Most MH members get the impression that they are not allowed to talk about this issue, their discontent with mods behaviour, the politics of the website or are able participate in site developments or open discussion.
Users and scanlators are more and more dragged out to be mere servants for a forum that plans to charge money for free work and pursuit and ban those who disagree with these plans.

The profiteers of selling MangaHelpers and it's members are the MH staff members and people involved. There are already translators who have established a system of charging money from groups for their translations while others do it for free and because they have fun with it. This is not only tolerated but welcomed by MH. Several tranlators have made up a system to translate for cash only and exclusively.

The same system will be established for scanlations soon.
Main person behind this plan is zidane of binktopia. He was also one of the major persons behind the business plan financing and he is highly interested not only to work exclusively on the most popular mangas for Shueisha, but monopolizing and installing MH as the major system of scanlation, replacing free scanlation. Most of the new rules origin from zidanes plans to force a new system over the now existing community. More and more new rules are made up every week with shallow arguments, until the new system is finally installed and the groups releasing at MH are caught in it.

But making a half-legal business illegaly and criminalize the community will ruin it. Please help to make this public and post to anyone who is involved or interested to put pressure on MH.
    Thank you.

I knew somebody was going to try this. Although the model I had envisioned was to have scanlators on side by offering free hosting and mybe paying them a small sum for scanlations (revenue permitting).

Should MH succeed, it won't really change anything other than to piss off some of the scanlators. The rest of us will continue to download by other means and circumvent MH entirely just like we already do with CR.

Also, MH won't criminalise the community; WE ALREADY ARE CRIMINALS.

If this works out for them, I can only applaud.
anything is accepted in business, as long as the results exist and ca be maintained. that is all.

Not sure what to say. It's sorta funny since it makes me think that what Tazmo did/still does isn't that much worse.

Somehow you just knew something like this would happen someday from a big name site.

It makes me wonder though why scanslators don't upload to sites that give them a little profit for getting people to download. Such as Depositefile, uploading, and hotfile.

    I replied to this here.

To reiterate for ST users; this is pretty much simply fiction and a smear campaign. It's all answered in the reply over on Baka Updates for those interested in reading.

    Thanks!

A smear campaign? To what end?
Ah, the dodgy double dealings of the shadowy world of scantalators...

Ccv seems to think its worth the fucking effort. Unfortunately no one is around enough to delete all the posts, and kane is MIA so we can't get any new mods or super mods.

This one made the rounds at many forums on the 10th. It's very hard to pressure volunteers in a market, and that won't change even if some groups are paid and many conglomerate on a site like MH.
