I don't really want to play the know-it-all fuck. But American Football originated from early versions of ... what the most of the World refers to as FOOTBALL or soccer. (And YES they really call soccer - FOOTBALL.)
Besides.. the Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia (I actually memorized this one years ago for hangman games. And I still know it..) is nothing more than a hoax. They used greek words to make a contradiction. It really is a satire. And DEFINITELY not a technical term. The actual term used in medical science is Sesquipedalophobia (Fear of long words).

Am I the only one who's grown to accept English as it is because of an exposure to other languages?

Oh, say...Japanese? Good lord things get convoluted when you over analyze the literal nature of things in some languages.

I only wish I knew why the French think every word should have half of the letters be unpronounced. Why the Welsh think like Germans so that words end up being the length of Taiwan. Why China let Europeans put so many L's and X's and Zh's and gods know what else into the transliterated version of their languages.

When I rule the world, we'll all speak one language - and it will be perfect! Or, you know, you can get out.

I speak 3 languages. I'm well aware of each language's ... "unique" stance on language.
