Today I re-watched Troy. Not very good apart from fight scenes, but there was a line of dialogue that I found striking; when Achilles' mother says:
"If you remain in Lorissa...you will have sons and daughters, and they will love you, and when you are gone they will remember you. But when your children are dead, and their children after them, your name will be lost."
Maybe it's because it's a holiday, but that put me in a melancholy mood. Everyone dies eventually; but what's the purpose in life if no one will ever remember our existence in a few generations? Unless you're someone like Gandhi or Hitler(i.e. done something so great that you're name will be burnt into history forever) no one will ever know who you were and what you did, even if it's recorded in paperwork somewhere.
