Thread: Binktopia being run out by Sleepyfans?

As I said its miscommunication. I never did said anything against Binktopia or Sleepyfans. Still no one can prove if anyone of them is telling the truth or if some personal issues are involve. And i never said neruke was the wetpussy, if you can read my previous post there's a "kidding aside." Anyway until I've heard from both parties, then I'll keep my cool for now. Hope this is resolve quickly among groups.

While I decide whether or not this thread belongs here... You better keep things civil. Next person that starts flinging unwarranted insults is getting hit with a stick. Get it?

The background of this new episode is just impatience. Long ago a group named illuminati was scanning Naruto, then some people came up who couldn't wait for the scans released sunday/monday so they formed a group themselves, to work with mq scans and translations from MH.... and so on. Today we get the scans of the popular mangas around thursday/friday and that doesn't have anything to do with fame. That's leechers greed. The first group who releases gets the majority of downloads, the others behind that bite dust for their hard work...

The people who scan manga are realistic enough that they only get some thanks (like 1% or 2% of downloaders/viewers), Groups like Binktopia get even less measured to their download range. The editors/ translators who do this for free love manga and want to help the community, none of them thinks about fame. 95% of the people who read manga don't care a fuck (sorry steal) about the credit page and the names on it. Neither do you know the real names of the scanners/transaltors or can see their pictures in the newspaper. Fame..? Ridiculous. Bullshit like that makes me angry. Tell GGPX or cnet about fame. They do it for the fun, as me. Give me one name of the community who does it for fame and I tell you he/she is an idiot.

And maybe you can download and view the latest scan for free my fellow ignorants, but getting the raws or exclusive translations long before others post them on MH isn't free.
Three people were arrested in Japan last year for selling raws to scan groups for violating copyrights. They will be in prison for years. Now today, the majority of the raw providing runs over chinese sites, but still it's an exclusive club where HQ raws cost money.

Binktopia stole other projects in the past and many people aren't too happy about that. Fairy Tail by KEFI and Berserk from Evil Genius are just two examples. I didn't like Binks crappy font in the beginning but I'm fine with that now. But I know of people who rather wait three-four days for EG's Berserk scans than supporting Binktopia and read their scans. It's like that, you rather like the old groups who take their time or you just follow the groups that always score first.
And I don't care if Bink is whinning now. That's the business and they know themsleves.

And for all of you saying Binktopia is "Number One": No. No, they're not. They may have a ton of projects (that other groups are doing, and often in better quality), and they may release fast, but that doesn't make them the best group out there. Number One in terms of speed scans? Who knows. (I personally favour Whatever, but they only do certain chapters when the leader feels like it, so it's less consistent.) Number One in terms of scanlations in general? Heck no. They're not the best group when it comes to quality by far, and that should be obvious for everyone to see.

Why are these guys whining about someone stealing their project? That's exactly what they've done. In most cases, Binktopia isn't the one releasing the best-quality scans, and they obviously don't care about that. If you think that the best group is one that releases the fastest, well... I'd say you've got terrible priorities, but then you have to accept that someone might be 'better' by releasing faster. It's just plain hypocritical of them, and fairly arrogant, I might add, to whine about someone releasing shittier scans faster when that's exactly what they seem to have been created to do.

(Don't get me wrong, I'll read their scans if nothing better is available... or I would, back when I read manga. At least, until that fugly watermark appeared. I just think that quality is what matters, and if you don't care about quality, don't whine when someone does your priorities better.)

The idea that someone is threatening them from making scanlations made my day. Seriously, how do you come up with this kind of bullshit? How does SleepyFans try to make profit? By sticking their releases on MediaFire RapidShit and MegaUpload? Yeah, that makes some real profit. Stale-translations, who knows. Do they even know their translations are any good? If so, how good? Have they ever had someone check them over? Or is it because the translators in question have good grammar it's safe to assume that the translation is accurate and therefore good. (They shouldn't complain about subpar cleaning either, but meh. Comes with MQ speedscans)

First, there is no such thing as a "number one group" seeing as this isn't a competition. In your opinion, sure, there are groups that are better than others (MangaScreener, Kotonoha, Omanga) and some groups that are just really, really bad (Mahou-X, JanimeS). But again, this is your opinion.

Bluddshock, Mangashare, Binktopia were all the same crew, just fusioned with other groups over and over.
Atm Binktopia has the best cleaners, translators and is mostly really fast.
So they are not for nothing number 1 atm.

And sleepyfans, lol, I saw their releases... they are just really crap. The cleaning isnt as good as Binktopias and their translation isnt as sharp as theirs.
They are nowhere to even challenge Binktopia atm. Is see other groups being able to but not sleepyfans.

First, you fucking fail. This isn't a competition therefore there is no such thing as a number one group. And even if they did "win", what in the fuck would they win? Irrelevant e-glory? Yeah, you sure can put that on your resume.

Cleaners, no. I know tons of superior cleaners. Translators, no. Stephenpaul and the Kotonoha translators are superior to all of their translators. And speed is irrelevant when you're putting out MQ chapters (Put out HQ chapters at good speed and then you'll impress me) because it's very easy to do.

Sorry, most big groups run on money and donations? Really? Because last I checked, MangaScreener doesn't ask for donations. Neither does Kotonoha... Nor Omanga...

Sure, plenty of groups ask for donations to help support their costs (http, bot, tankos) but rare is it that a real group runs on donations and money.

See, you'd have a point if Binktopia actually bought their own "HQ raws" (They're called tankobons), but they don't. The only time they used tankobons for a scanlation was for DGM a few weeks ago, and they used public scans. The translations they get are free. Hisshou has been translating for years now, cnet has been translating for a while too. I think they're fine with doing it for free.

And no, it isn't a "publication." It's a fucking scanlation.

I'd just like to let you know of something. In the last 3 years, I'Ve spent roughly ~$500 on scanlation related stuff. $200 for a scanner (Well, 225 with tax I think), and about $300 in books and 1 magazine. The last time I asked for money from the community to help me pay off these was... never. Because I don't run on money, and I do this for myself as this is a hobby.

Just to clear things up, we originally started doing Naruto because someone offered us an HTTP address to host our releases (We didn't have one at the time) in return we had to do Naruto and advertise his site. In the end, we just continued doing Naruto regularly (For 10 chapters or so) but we never got the site.

Anyway, how would SleepyFans try to make profit, when one of the first things they do is upload their releases at OneManga?

Quality does not matter to the average person. Their only distinction in quality is readable or unreadable. Same with the translation.

When I am browsing through one manga looking to kill time by reading manga rarely does the thought go through my head "Man, a better release will be out in a couple of hours". I just read it.

Watermarks are fine with me, because this way you can do something against those Tazmos out there. (You cant just delete them like credit pages)

There's a difference between normal watermarks and THAT. A good watermark is a tiny logo in the corner of a page or in a generally unobtrusive spot that does not block art. A bad watermark is a huge image in the middle of the page that generally makes it quite difficult to read the manga and look at the pictures.

You know which one Binktopia uses.
