Thread: Unmerciful People

Seriously what the hell? This happen to one of my friends recently; He was working and his co-worker had a seizure, and one of his friends was there. My friend asked him to dial 911, but him being stupid-ass enough wanted to see what was going on and said oh..... Till my friend yelled at him. Is this shocked to see something like this or stupidity?

That's because people are so self-centered thinking, "This is not my problem, someone else will deal with it," Either that or their too scared and stupid to do something, or know what to do.

I'd contest that. Vigilante implies that they take the law into their own hands. They do things themselves when others don't. I'd say this is the American Dead-Eyed Sheep culture.

It's a universal human phenomenon. People don't take action because they think someone else is/will do something about it. FantasyStrike, maybe the co-worker thought your friend was going to do it himself. Same goes for the pedestrians in that news story. It isn't that they're unmerciful; it's just the bystander intervention effect (its actual name). Hasn't anyone heard of Kitty Genovese before? :/

Yea, it's like the more people that are present, the least likely one of them will do something to help.

And I remember thinking Kitty Genovese was cute, the first time I saw her picture. Then I realized that Kitty Genovese was dead.
