My stance on piracy, adonai?
Anime and manga are fair game, in my opinion, with the crap that is being foisted on the American public. If I really like a manga, though, I will delete what I download and buy it, because at least some of it goes to the author.
Music and movies? Absolutely against, and not only because it is risky. I just don't support that.
Same with games. Under no conditions do I think games should be pirated, it is literally killing the computer gaming industry I love.
TV series, on the other hand, I will download. I figure that I get cable, so technically I have a right to see them, I just want to see them in one block. However, if I like the series, I delete the download and buy the DVD. If I don't like the series, I delete the stuff. Come to think of it, I really don't keep the stuff more than a few days.
For games? Yes/No. Since they have had a no return policy on PC games where I live for quite a while now... I <have> to test them beforehand to see if they even worked (when I had my old computer). And don't give me "thats what a demo is for" bullshit. I've run across demos that actually had ENTIRELY DIFFERENT system requirements. If it WORKS and you PLAY IT (as in, for more than an hour) then you buy it. End of story. If it didn't suck, and you played it, buy it. If you started it up and went wtf less than an hour in and deleted it off your HDD... xD
For music? Yes. The artists don't get shit for CD revenue sales. Pirate away and make sure to buy their shirts an stuff when you go to their concerts, they get those sales.
For Movies? No. Come on guys, the price of a movie ticket is fucking cheap and a movie is a one time deal. You see it, your done, thats it. No more entertainment value. Don't pirate movies. You've no excuse unless they don't come out where you live (and I know for damn sure thats not most of you).
For TV series... Yes/No. No to anything new/or requires payperview type deal to watch. Your hurting the business for real there. Yes to the older stuff. A lot of the time thats the only way you can find it. (I know the stores near here don't carry anything older than say... 6 years practically).
For Anime. Yes. Pirate the fuck away. When the goddamn businesses do such a shitty job dubbing, they have no RIGHT to be asked to get paid. You don't pay for a shoddy product. At that point I WANT the fucking originals in subs. Theres no excuse for censoring and dumbing down and whatnot for an anime. Fuck you licensers.
What a fun topic this is.
Movies: If the movie is out in theaters, and I want to see it, I wont pirate it. Usually I wont. I may have seen parts of Saw 4 before I actually went to see the movie in person. I've done that with other movies as well.
Music: As odd as it is, I completely agree with Martyr on this one. The way in which record companies work, CD sales have almost no trickle by the time the artist is done paying off everyone else from the minuscule percentage that they end up with. Me? I'd see them live, at the least they make more money that way, and I can enjoy seeing them perform in person.
TV Series: ...I don't particularly care for much that's on TV. I watch The Daily Show and Colbert Report, and it's redundant to pirate them with their sites set up the way they are. Other than that, most of what I would even pirate, I still watch on the stations that are being paid for.
Anime/Manga: Pirate, pirate, pirate. No guilt on my behalf. Now that doesn't mean that I don't have the ultimate goal of understanding a great deal of Japanese myself and purchasing the original versions of stuff I live. And like Martyr said about movies: sometimes it's just hard to find older stuff for sale without going well out of your way to get it.
Games: I've spent so much money over the years that anything that I can download and legitamately play on my computer, I will do so. Sort of. I wont download a cracked version of a brand new (insert absurd number here) gigabyte game. I'd rather just buy it and avoid the hassle of the bandwidth and commitment it would take to get it. Hell, I'll support game developers whenever possible. What I mostly pirate are things of the N64/PS1/GBA generation and before. Even then, I buy remakes of them.
True, but then if you want to watch it leagally, the license fees have to be paid. I'm not saying that crunchyroll (or any site) should profit from free fansubs without giving something back to the subbers (lets not bring up the issue of Tazmo), my point was that I'm quite happy to pay to watch anime.

While I'm living here in USA now, I'll speak of my experience before living here
Games; Everyone should have the original.
But where I lived, games are not something mid-class can afford..
While a new game here in US cost 30bucks.. For us down in Brazil it goes for about $120!!!
So, unfortunately piracy is an attractive option where you have the game costing only about 10bucks..
I did import some games, like Evequest, Baldur's gate.. but Everquest alone that at the time was going for 29.99, I had to pay over $200 total, because of custom, and shipping.
Maybe if the gaming industry was more accessible to general public. We wouldn't have to resort to piracy.
Although I rest that NO MMO should be ever played on a pirate server! it freakin kill the game, I aways paid for them, even living in Brazil..
Music: never cared about, but I did buy some cds of bands I liked some years ago, but now I just download stuff that can't be sold, or won't be sold here anyway, most being anime OST for some random video if I need to..
TV Series: Again, sometimes we don't get such series.. so.. how are we supposed to watch? Or we aren't?
And even if I did get, having a DVR Recorder plugged in, isn't the same shit?
Movie: Sometimes the movies takes months to get there, if ever at all, and most of time DUBBED.
Just like you prefer to watch your anime with subs, I do too want to watch my movies on original voice.. ktnkx.
Brazilians voice actors are really something..
BUt if we get the luxury of having the subbed movie coming out! C'mon, its cheap as hell to get in, with student discount and all that.. a lunch on McDonald's cost more then a movie ticket..
Even with the pirate movie going for $10 each, movies surround sound, enormous screen > anything you possibly have!
So I'm supposed to wait year 2020, to get my hands on today's naruto/bleach/onepiece/insert some anime here episode?
Not to mention, am I supposed to buy all off a series with more then 200?
My estimate is that the sum of 5 of the most popular series, will go over 1300 episodes, taking a 5 average episode by DVD.. do the math, its pretty insane money spent.
There are just two series that I'd bought them, and probably will be the last, although I keep buying anime stuff, like key chains, art books, some cool stuffs.
bleach cell phone strap are pretty cool~!
So I don't have any hard feelings for downloading any anime! I spend money already on their merchandise.

Games - I buy all my games, th sole reason being that you can't play pirated games online.
Music - I download all of my music (except classical). Why buy when you can get it all for free?
Movies - Like MGS said, I'd only buy the DVD's if it's for a show that I reeeeeeally like. Otherwise, I wouldn't buy (or even rent) the DVD for a show I'd only watch once.
Anime - This has been said by a couple posters before me. Anime costs atm are ridiculously high. Here, four eps. of Haruhi cost around $70-90CDN. Sure, it's got a nice box and (shitty) extras, but if you want to own the whole season it'd set you back $300. And that's on top of the horrible voice acting. If the licensors want to make money, they should either a) find better voice actors or b) just make nice subtitles. And lower the prices so one complete season would cost maybe $50CDN. Then maybe I'd buy a couple of the series I like.
Games- Only ones I wanna play online. Here it's hard to actually get an original, add to that, there's no restriction of piracy at all, so basically a cd store has thousands of cds/dvds and they cost 3 buck a cd, 4 or 5 bucks for a dvd.
Music- No. Never really cared about that.
Movies- No theaters here, you can get ones just as good for 5 bucks.
Anime- Just bought 50+ episodes of anime on two dvds. Cost me 7 bucks.
Other pirated software: I used to have O&O Defrag, but I uninstalled it since it's almost stealing/windows defrag was good enough. No license protections laws here at all.
Gonna use the recipe everybody seem to use :3
Games Sometimes, But its only games I dont wanna spent money on buying, like if they are too expensive
Music Never, I only download one song per month or something like that, But I buy the CD's, I like to support the artist and I don't wanna see the CD disapear from the market because everybody downloads em online.
Movies Sometimes, I do like buying Dvd's Got a butt load of Lmited edition (kind of a geeky collector on that point =/) So, no to prrating movies.
Anime same as irecinius^
If funimation was doing a proper and much cheaper release, I wouldn't mind buying anime from them. The first and last dvd I bought from them was YuGioh. My goddaughter complained about how could they give the older Yugi an Old man's voice.
Feel bad for you. I really do. CD's are now sold less, note the sold part, than their digital counterparts.
