not new. i remember the one and only colbert report episode i saw, colbert was showing a pie chart of the budget - "defense" occupying a noticeably large slice - and goes look how much tax money is being wasted on education !

but honestly. why the heck do they need to allocate that much for "defense" (always disliked that misnomer, but that's another story) ? the U.S. and Russia have enough firepower to annihilate the entire world.

Death and Taxes was, for a long time, the top US WoW guild. It is unclear which guild reigns supreme in North America at the moment, but DnT are still there among the best.
They achieved the world fist kills of most bosses in Naxxramas and Serpentshrine Cavern (but were outclassed by Nihilum for the Lady Vashj kill). Death and Taxes hold the record for the most first US kills, including the firsts complete clears of Gruul's Lair, Tempest Keep, Battle for Mt Hyjal and the Black Temple (Illidan kill on June 30th 2007, 25 days after Nihilum got the world fist Illidan kill).
Many consider Death and Taxes to be the second greatest guild of all time, behind Nihilum.

That's a good point. How long have we been trying to assertain the methods of defeating that horrible entity? It feeds on our star's energy and masquerades as it nearly every night. Sometimes it even goes as far as to block our vision of the glorioius sunlight in midday! Down with the sky demon!

On a related note: Could we really trust NASA to build a canon to destroy the moon? Wouldn't they simply spend the money on food and try building the weapon out of diamonds and plantinum, only to fail halfway through?

Err, Russia hasn't really had crap for a military for a while now. And their nuclear arsenal is heh. MIA. XD

Also thats not exactly changed since the cold war... and frankly we've just exchanged one big potential enemy (Russia) for a lot of little potential ones.
