well, they've been restructuring after the Cold War, and it looks like they're finally getting back on their feet again. honestly, if the U.S. played together with the rest of the world instead of trying to control everything, maybe it wouldn't have as many enemies.

That isn't a liberal hippie idea - it's kindergarden logic. Haven't you ever heard of it?! If everyone plays nicely with each other and shares, and listens to the teacher, everyone's happy. =)

Ahh Kindergarden logic. Where all the ideals of socialism actually work.

Hello and welcome to the real world, I will be your guide. Feel free to ask questions during your tour.

Hell no I won't, this is the real world and the chances of the average person helping you with no personal benefit to themselves in close to nil.

.... we're talking about international cooperation, not gift-giving. even in DE's contrived example, "sharing" and "playing nicely" doesn't equate to zero personal benefit.

No personal benefit - People are almost guaranteed not to do this.
Less personal benefit - People are almost guaranteed not to do this.

In terms of the actions taken, "no benefit" and "less benefit than the alternative(s)" are equal.

Brilliant. That worked so well with Neville Chamberlain's United Kingdom foreign policy with Germany.

...What happened after the appeasement of Hitler, again?

P.S. - And who exactly would the "teacher" be, DE? If you are implying the US should be just another student, then you seem to be implying we give the UN a, in the nicest sense of the word, "retarded" amount of power.

you guys are confusing "cooperation" with "appeasement". i'm talking about cooperation with *allies* for mutual benefit, not kowtowing to the *enemies*. the war on iraq - for instance - was a total mess, partly due to the States ignoring its own allies.

yes, the U.N. can be slow and cumbersome, like our law/voting systems. but like our law/voting systems, it's necessary to maintain some semblance of order. ignoring the U.N. like that sets a bad precedent and fuels anger/bitterness.
