actually, come to think of it, what's the worse that could've happened at that point ? he loses a coat in addition to his wallet. from the danger and resource standpoints, it wasn't much of a gamble. it's just that not too many people (me included) would take the extra step to do something so unexpected and self-giving.
Or the mugger could have turned round, panicked and stabbed the guy.
Or the mugger could have been a nut case with a knife just waiting for something to set him off.

    @bipolar: so who won?

normally if something like this ever happens to people. It's either they try to resist or they get scared and does what they are told.

But for them to actually care about their mugger like that. This guy is something else. Man he's nice. I do agree with the OP. We need more people like that.

They considered the blind guy who gave away his two servants as a winner, since that was the only thing he had left (since he needed them to guide him).
Still, the other two where impressive. A guy's maid gives a beggar one thousand dinars? What would he do if he was awake? (The other guy was traveling, and out of town, so he just gave the beggar his sword/horse/money, and waited for someone to pick him up to go home). I thought the story sounded boring :P

    Very nice story indeed

@Abaile : those possibilities are not very likely, people don't panick and stab people when they see they are not threatening them.

...I...I've never seen such a blatant lie in one sentence. Well, outside of the three most sensitive topics.

People who rob others at knife point, in public, will occasionally panic upon realizing the person they just wronged is trying to interact with them. In your defense, being a knife and not a gun, it's far less likely than normal that the kid could have snapped.

I think it's true. (If you're talking about the one I said.)

It's not a lie because it's my opinion. I may be wrong if that's what you meant, but that's all.

I don't share your opinion at all, because even a robber won't panic if the guy he robbed try to interact with him calmly. First, there was enough room between the 2 to avoid any kind of panic, and second, if someone is being nice to you, you don't go ahead and try to stab him (and even so, Julio Diaz would have had time to react).

@Bipolar : I was talking about the initial story Yours is nice, but I wonder how these 3 afford to stay alive if they gave everything they had to anyone who asked.

Let me rephrase my point, and make a note that "lie" really wasn't the right word this. I'll admit that.

My point was, when the man first had his wallet stolen, and the kid turned around, the moment the man made a gesture and formed the words that he was going to give him his coat, it is not exactly considered...rare, for the person to have instinctively attacked the man, or at least ran away, before he could get halfway through the sentence.

If criminals with lethal weapons didn't kill people when panicking, then being mugged wouldn't so often result in injury and deaths.

If I had seen this in a movie I would have thought it was so cliche and would never happen in the real world.

    What a heartwarming story.
