Video Games - Parental polls show that sex is less acceptable than violence

As per tradition, I wont post much at the start, so I'll say just this much to show my experience in this field:

I was raised by a Southern Christian conservative woman - who let me watch, play, or read anything as long as it didn't contain any indication of being pornographic. Mortal Kombat was fine, as long as the girls weren't shown topless.

Well, it's an american phenomenon, we're a bit more liberal here in Europe concerning sex... but it's the other way around about violence. Especially in my place, games with too much violence get cut. I always have to get my games via post from England or Austria where violence isn't cut out of games.

Look, I'm not a hypocrite through this concern, but sometimes I shake my head upon why Americans have problems with nudity and sex (it's the most natural thing of the world after all) and accept violence and gore as a normal prospect on the other side (in case to solve problems as example). That was alike with that Super Bowl Incident with Jackson and Timberlake, it was really hilarious how Americans over-react just about a little peek-a-boo tit...

Meh, I prefer a liberal standard with violence,gore and sex in videogames, and a violence-free and sex-liberal society... Keep on dreaming, can I?

Just not too anti-sex in our society. There has to be a line somewhere.

Violence is mildly acceptable in my household. It's a wonder I get away with playing No More Heroes sometimes...

Frankly in their own way, they're both 'dangers' to the youth. Sex not quite so obvious, but between STDs and overpopulation we're handing them one fucked up future by not educating the majority properly/ignoring the problem. Violence... well I think anyone can tell you the problems with Violence.

Don't get me wrong, theres a time for sex AND OR violence but trying to pretend like EITHER of them doesn't exist is just stupid. America: Stupid for the level of censoring of nudity, Europe: stupid for the level of censoring of violence (I'm looking at you in particular Germany and UK).

I come from a military family in America... originally from Europe.... so I've never had bans on EITHER subject... and I use violence less than most and I've got no problems with nudity. Act like its not a big deal and people will treat it as not a big deal.

Edit: If I sound like I'm rambling, I probably am, bit distracted.

Wasn't it because of a school shooting in Germany that they decided to ban all violent video games etc. I think, cant remember correctly but games like counter strike are banned in Germany. America hasn't gone that far, and I'm one of those that think Violent video games has nothing to do with Shootng, violent behavior etc.

Right about that, we got alot of posters with naked girls that drinks a alcoholic beverage. They did get them removed at first, but now they are back.^

I think the big problem with sex in games is that it's more easily imitated.

If you play a game or watch a movie where the main character goes around hacking people up with a chainsaw, chances are you're not gonna get too excited about going out and doing it yourself.

But if you play a game or watch a movie where the main character goes around having unprotected sex with a large number of women, chances are you're going to be more likely to want to give that a shot.

And it's not just on a personal level... people try to blame violence in games and movies for increases in real life crime, but I just don't think it follows. However, if sex becomes more visible in media, then I definitely see that that could increase the sexual desire of the community, especially among the young. Increased promiscuity among young people isn't something anybody wants (except the young), especially parents.

Hell, personally, I'm already terrified of having a daughter in today's world. You can't turn around these days without seeing explicit shots of idealised women getting sexually dominated. The pressure on young girls these days to conform to society's "norms" must be pretty big - as evidenced by the rising number of children as young as primary school having sex. By the time I have a kid, I shudder to think what the world will be like.

Nah, CS ain't banned here. The discussion if videogames were responsible for that school shooting was idiotic from the start, befired from conservative politicians as usual who wanted to find an easy scapegoat. It's the same with the idiotic media here, their always nagging around about Ego-shooters as the source of all evil and assume that all the 200 000 German CS Gamers are all potential killers. BULLSHIT.

Than the massacer was in that school, all where bashing the games, the players and the game industry without reflecting. Today it's known that the shooter was an outsider excluded and cornered by the teachers and the school board for not getting an acquisition. Plus he was high on Tilidin when he made it. Put the truth always gets small announcement...

The fuck here, is that they force the game industry to change their games. Like putting robots except of humans to shoot at, reduce the blood and the gore or delete complete stages. F.E. The mercenaries part of RE4 is missing completly in the German version. What did the gamers do? 70% sold their german version to kids or stores and ordered the uncut version from outside of Germany. That wouldn't even change if German politicians get away withforbidding 'killer-games' in the country (as they really discuss daily). They don't see that the problems are elsewhere, plus they're hurting the German game industry (Crytek).

Whyis sex beeing less acceptable then violence wierd? Violence in games dont harm people. If sex wherent less acceptable then someting was wrong so i dont get it really..

about the violence not hurting anyone part:

A young kid playing and watching a reall 18+ game with allot ofviolence the kid might get scared but the kid DOES NOT become a TERORIST

Why is it that they care more about straight sex than gay sex?
