Long story short, even though from that one post it may not have been obvious, I was on the same side of the argument. Politeness doesn't necessarily make this world any better, but it does make those little moments, wherein courtesy is shown, alleviate that innate tension everyone has about everyone else; thus, as I've said throughout this thread, I'm the type that will stand by a door unusually long just to avoid having it shut in someone's face.

It's kind of nice to see people arguing for politeness. Ah, and by the way, about the penny thing - that's one of the nicest things I've ever seen that a complete stranger can do to brighten your day.

    It really does.
I still remember this lady who left me off ten pence way back when. Ah, best ice cream ever.

    ... WHAT THE FUCK.

So I turn to her retreating back and say "For what" and if I'm lucky she'll turn around and say "for almost bumping into me" and I'll cock my head to the side and say "You didn't touch me or even come all that close to me... its cool don't apologize for that"

Seriously. If you don't invade someones personal space, if you don't even touch them don't fucking apologize. Or maybe someone here can explain why people do that shit.
    Maybe it's just habit.

I say "I'm sorry" ALL THE TIME even though I really don't mean it.

The same can be said for many of today's common phrases, such as "I love you" or "I'm just kidding" and, of course, let's not forget the all time most important "Of course I'm wearing one."
