sorry, democrasy wasn't the word(s) i was looking for, just the one i happened to think of at the time. i meant to say i didn't expect a lynching of a perfectly rational, peaceful person in a "modern, 1st world, educated" country.

i knew that there are some really patriotic people in america and some people that won't listen to facts, but an entire *school* ? including the principal ? i must admit i was slightly taken aback when i read about it.

She went to the principal on Oct. 23 2001 wanting to start an anarchy club. Her knowledge of American history and sense of timing was poor.
In the wake of any attack against the US there will be a period of shock, anger, and an automatic public response by most to support the government and whatever action they take to deal with a common enemy. Any opposition from within will likely be labeled as a anti-American and be considered as taking a position favorable to the enemy against your own people. Once US forces are deployed to fight this becomes even more the case as vocal opposition to the war will then be viewed an attempt to demoralize combat forces in the field.
And she wanted to start an Anarchy Club in this kind social and political climate? Sorry, it was a foreseeable consequence that even if she won the right in court to start such a club, it would amount to a pyrrhic victory at best because this doesn't guarantee that the other students, teachers, or parents would quietly agree with it. All she probably accomplished was to increase an awareness of what she had done and was doing, and increase the level of harassment directed against her.
All in all, this a prime example of "Good intentions, good ideas, bad procedure, bad follow up, and just far too much extremism at the beginning." She would have been far less ridiculed for wanting to save the environment but started by requesting to form a club on Eco-Socialism. Hell, that wouldn't have been nearly as bad as advocating pure anarchy.
Wow...if I were in her class, I'd slap her too. What a fucking moron.
