Thread: Limiting Fanfiction?

As a new member here, and one that has been around the internet a bit, I think we all know fanfiction. While I write a little myself, I have come to notice an extreme decline in good fanfiction. Regular sites with hundreds/thousands of hits a day rarely have good stories about them, and when they do they sometimes are so radical (like adding the author to the story itself) that other people think it's okay to cuss them out and run them off.

Every other story is so terrible that they only run about a paragraph long and normally involve homosexual intercourse.

But what I am trying to get at; should there be a limit upon fanfiction? Like definite reviews to siphon out the good from the bad on these larger sites?

There's no way to limit fan fiction in order to fit your pleasures.

I don't read fan fiction in general cause it's not for me. If you asked me, I'd think they all were crap and we should eliminate all of em. XD

I guess I had the fortune to actually read some good fanfiction before crap... and I really do mean genuinely great and original stories that were well-written and portrayed characters very well. It definitely isn't all awful, but it seems that the millions of moronic fangirls (with terrible English skills - and they're native speakers!) out there have given it a terrible reputation. While I've never read anything awful myself, knowing well enough to stay away from anything that even remotely sounds like it might be less than acceptable, I can't believe that there are people out there who will read crap like god only knows what my imagination can come up with.

I'm still not going to touch it with a ten-foot pole even if it exists, but I don't see the problem with preventing stupid people from spreading their stupidity and multiplying. (Give 'em a hysterectomy while you're at it too, please.)

(CPR, there is fanfiction that individuals dislike, and there is crap. Two different things. Crap is crap no matter how many people like it. It's like a bad speed scanlation.)
