The problem with the private health care insurance in the US is that what's in the best financial interests of a health care insurer looking to earn quarterly profits is often at odds with what's in the best interests of patients who requires treatment that may be expensive.

An insurance company generally doesn't care about paying out for routine office visits that end with the patient getting prescriptions along with perhaps an xray or some lab blood work. It's when patients begin needing expensive surgical procedures performed, or require costly lab work done like CT Scans and MRI's, or they need long term regular medical procedures like kidney dialysis...that's when health insurers start looking at individuals who need that care as financial liabilities.

Health care in the u.s. is horrible... other than insurance, you got patients trying to sue at every chance they get (even if what happened to them wasn't the doctor's fault).

    That is totally scandalous O.o

The shocker: the company awarded her bonuses based on how many policy holders she dropped.

The company called 2003 - the year Fowler dropped Patsy Bates - "a banner year" for her, for saving the company $6 million in what they call "unnecessary health care expenses."
unnecessary health care expenses ??? They would be if their job was to take money from the healthy while dropping the unhealthy... Oh wait >.>
