This is going to be a long one, so stay with me here. I saw this being discussing on Digg.com and decided to check and see if we had this topic already, and I didn't see an instance of an entire topic on it, so I made an all encompassing one to make up for it.

NOTE: I want your responses to be based on your own ethical, moral, and personal judgment, not that of your country, reputation, or religion specifically.

First of all, what is everyone's take on the standards in which a "Sexual predator" is defined? What is the age range for it? Is consensual sex actually an assault when the "illegal" person was seriously pursuing the encounter?

Second of all, is it a masculine thing to want to have sexual relations with younger persons?

75% of sexual predators are male and 25% are female.

86% of the victims of female sexual predators aren't believed, so the crimes go unreported and don't get prosecuted.

Considering these facts, arrest statistics for child sexual offenders by gender are meaningless.

Third of all, does our society actually give a degree of amnesty towards women who are not part of any public institutions?

QUEBEC (CP) - A Quebec woman who had sex with a 13-year-old boy has been sentenced to 15 months in prison.

The relationship between Julie Dorval, 31, and the boy began after the youth made advances over the Internet. Within about three months they had sex on several occasions. Youth protection services were called after Dorval and the teenager were seen walking hand-in-hand and hugging each other. Dorval pleaded guilty last April to sexual assault.

Prosecutors had been seeking a sentence of at least two years in a federal penitentiary, while the defense suggested a conditional sentence of nine to 12 months.

CanadianCRC editor's note: Notice how in cases in which the female is an adult sexual predator, the articles use words such as above "having sex" and not sexual assault. If this had been a 31 year old male having sex with a 13 year old female, the sentence is typically more. In addition, sentencing a male perpetrator to at least 2 years in prison would put the prisoner in federal penitentiary. The result would be further punishment by men in prison who don't take kindly to a man who sexually assaults a 13 year old female.

Fourth of all, what is your take on the idea of Tracey's Laws? When a person one year under the age of consent has sexual relations with a person only one year above that age, it is considered the same as if the latter person were of any age above that of consent; therefore, they are registered as sex offenders and have to deal with the consequences.


Finally, what is your take on human sexuality in relation to age and gender? At what age do you think sexuality start to be "all right" to express to another human being of similar age? Does gender matter to you in this scenario?

gender doesn't matter much, but age - definitely. there really is a transition period between knowing and not knowing about the dynamics of a consensual relationship. though, the age range for this is really, really diverse. age of consent isn't perfect, but it's better than not having one, imo.

No its a pervasive sexual fantasy. No one will admit it but we are attracted to youth. Why do you think male models are shaved? Why do you think women try to be as skinny and "youthful" (if they're not "young" already). That pseudo-prepubescent look is attractive to the vast majority of people. Women just as much as men.

Maybe. Its generally seen that adults (no matter what their job) have a degree of persuasion over younger persons, so most cases are prosecuted as an abuse of power... regardless of whether that power is government given.

When a person one year under the age of consent has sexual relations with a person only one year above that age, it is considered the same as if the latter person were of any age above that of consent; therefore, they are registered as sex offenders and have to deal with the consequences.

Almost every sexual based law is reactionary. Something bad happened to one person and in order to "prevent" it from occurring again a law was made. Emotionally driven laws are always illogical and excessive.

Finally, what is your take on human sexuality in relation to age and gender? At what age do you think sexuality start to be "all right" to express to another human being of similar age? Does gender matter to you in this scenario?

In a consensual relationship age is irrelevant. Gender is a human concept so it's also irrelevant, at least when talking about pure sexual gratification. As for when sexuality starts to be alright... I say birth. Seriously. We are born sexual beings, and as soon as we can control ourselves (18 - 36 months?) and we gain a social sense (3 - 5 years?) and start making friends of the same or opposite sex we start experimenting. Ignorant freedom... and its all downhill from there.

I am ignoring the biastophiliacs in the world though...

That's nice, but isn't that like saying "The reason the taxes are so high nowadays is because we have had recessions." It justifies the creation, not the longevity of the standard.

Despite the fact I generally agree with you, you just said that expressed sexuality is fine while still in infancy stages. I didn't specify that I meant with others beyond self-exploration; so I'll let that go.

A thief can only be one thing. Someone that steals something. A sexual offender can be a rapist, and underage couple, a exhibitionist, a voyeur, etc. Things that have absolutely nothing to do with one another and are completely harmless can all be labeled sexual offenses.

Not in my opinion. Because the law gets real stupid real quick. And as a law, if its useless a year or two later, then it should never have existed to begin with.

Someone who rapes someone else. Either one of them can lie and say they were or weren't raped, but in the end the man is most likely to be blamed since after all he does the fu*king. I don't think a woman can rape a man, unless she is capable of holding him down and forcing him. A 30 year old woman should know better than to have sex with a 13 year old boy. Obviously she was not in the right mind.

I think it's just more accepted for a older man to have a younger woman than vice versa

Like what I said before, it's in everyone's mind that the man does the f*cking so the fact that they had sex, people probably assume it must have been consensual at some point. At least more than with a 30 year old man and a 13 year old girl.

This may seem really conservative, but if it was illegal to have sex period unless you were married then it would get rid of a lot of the problems about age differences and whether it was consensual or not. But since that's never gonna happen(here at least) then the idea of one year difference makes it a sex offense is dumb. But people know it's against the law so why don't they just wait? I know there are circumstances where the girl or boy might lie about their age, but again if they just stayed virgins till marriage then they wouldn't have to worry about it.

When they're married. It's hard but it's doable. That's my personal opinion, but I'm guessing the majority of society would say...It depends on the parents of the children really. If they're in 3rd grade and the parents are cool with them dating then there ya go.

People need to get marriage off this damn pedestal they have it on. Its annoying.

what are you talking about? What's wrong with marriage? There's a reason for its existence.

I think the entire argument for this is moot, as sexual predators are over-advertised and your about 300 times more likely to be sexually assaulted by family, friends, your neighbors, a doctor, a priest or a teacher, than someone online. (The # is actually higher for family and friends, 300 times is about right for neighbors and a little lower for the doctor, priest, teacher scenario).

Doesn't that just make you feel warm and happy inside? Knowing family and friends are the number 1 cause for sexual assault? :P

And SD you can't really complain, you make a comment like that about the status quo and your just asking for shit (and for the record, while I'm not a huge proponent of marriage, its better than more likely to keep the relationship than any other option... soo...)
