Well, here's a thought...

Let's say you have a really close friend. You've known eachother as long as you can remember. You hang out all the time, get along perfectly well.

Now, there is a girl/guy (whichever you prefer). You are attracted to him/her, and want to ask him/her out (and have a good chance at them saying "yes"). But before you have the chance to, your friend confesses to you that they really like this same person.

In this situation, what would you do?
You know that if you go out with that person, your friendship with your friend will be crushed, along with your friend's feelings/heart.
Yet you want that person's company.

Would you let your friend ask the person out, or would you throw away your friendship for the person instead?

That's quite the dilemma... I think the best thing to do would be for both friends to talk. In the end, it should come down to whom the third person likes.

This sounds like the plot for a certain anime. But shall remain unnamed for the duration of this conversation.

I'd say keep the friendship. After all, you've known him/her for far longer than your potential love interest, and there's no guarantee that said interest will actually work out. But if you go for the love interest, your friendship will probably be unsalvageable.

This is strictly from a cost/benefit point of view. In the end...just go with your heart. Do whatever you think is right.

edit: Your poll doesn't really make sense. There's no particular yes or no question.

There is no way this can end very well.

DON'T talk about it, or you'll force them to make the choice between you and them.

ALL you really have to decide is whether the person you like is more important than your friend. You have to choose one.

hahaha, all jokes a side, it's a tough call. Since it is love triangle, i think the guy should make the choice since he's the one that both females like. That was there shouldn't be "too" much damage done to ur friendship with the other gal.

This is a painfull situation.

Would probobly come down to how this third person feels. How close are you and your friend to this person that you both like? If its just someone you've both seen and got a crush on then then frell her/him. But if the person is part of both your friendships then its really problematic.

If it had been me and I had no "history" with the girl/guy then I would most likely be the nice guy and let my friend have a go. But be wary of jealously if you choose such a path. If you cant handle it, it can turn really ugly later down the road.

Gamble isnt fun at times. Take the girl/guy and the relationship might end after a month and then your alone without your friend :P

not true at all. What if this person you date is the "love of your life," or anything along those lines. Friends are great, don't get it wrong, but if they were real friends they'd support you too.

Happened to me. I didn't mention it to my friend.

All this "let the third person decide" nonsense is rubbish. What, you both go up to him, confess your feelings, and say, "now, pick one!" How's he supposed to do that? Even if you do it in a less confrontational way, if he knows you two are friends and that you both like him, he's likely to (if he's friends with both of you) want to remain friends with both of you and so choose no one.

Also, you don't need a mod to alter your poll. Just edit your own original post to actually stick a question in there somewhere at the end.
