    Default Thinking

is it possible to stop thinking and completely blank out ? my gf says it's possible and happens a lot, but for myself, i don't see how that's possible - i mean, sometimes i drift off into daydreams and stupid repetitive ideas, but i can't stop thinking; wouldn't you be like... dead ? =\

    i think you could.

It's easy to clear your mind so you don't think of something. Try this: stare at something with your eyes. Now, concentrate on your breathing. In. Out. In. Out. In. Out.

Is your mind thinking of anything? Well, not really. My mind goes blank. =D

Aren't you more interested in the potential implications of this?

    ^lovely.

Anyways, depends on what you mean by "thinking". Supposedly, our minds are constantly active on the subconscious level (when were asleep, etc), and what your gf is describing seems to be the same as zoning out, which is pretty much extremely short spurts of sleep, so while you may not actively or consciously have thought something at the time, you may have subconsciously.

At that time, I'm thinking about the breathing that I'm concentrating on. Than, eventually I start to think on how boring that is, and my mind starts to wonder.

Though I'm not sure why someone would want to stop thinking. I'd rather spend that time doing something fun than feel like I just zoned out. Time is precious.

That weird moment right before I realize I'm sleeping and I've stopped trying to go to sleep. No thoughts there... and if there are I don't remember them. I can never seem to consciously feel myself falling asleep no matter how hard I try.

I'd like to die with the songs I love stuck in my head. I hope to make the most of these hollow bones we become.
I raise a toast to the the souls that sang all along. I've been gathering friends to just to make some sounds,
before the ship goes down, I've been making amends by making the rounds before the whole world ends

I do not think people can stop thinking. One way or the other you'd be thinking about something. Maybe if you're under a trance, I wouldn't know.

okay, how about holding your breath then...

idk.. for me it's VERY easy to clear the mind.

as long as I don't have a song stuck in my head. >_<

I am always thinking about something (most of the time stupid) personally.. It gets problematic when I want to sleep because I typically "daydream" for hours before falling asleep.
