    Default Population Control?

I know in Canada there is a moderately strong push to get professional women to have kids, they have monetary compensation set in place and are looking to help women advance their careers post-childbirth. However I'm wondering what the opinions on StopTazmo are on this. While the population of Canada may be declining, world population has been growing at an alarming rate. If it continues we can only hope our technologies can keep up with the demand for increasingly shared resources. (nevermind if all humans on earth had a "decent standard of living" which I put in quotes because I don't think there is a concensus about it's definition).

    Any thoughts?

Why is it that only women get the money? Their husbands are probably going to be paying most or some of the money towards the child's upbringing.

I think its a good idea for a country with a declining number of childbirth to push the idea of increasing it. If a population of a country is decreasing by itself (not influence by war, sickness etc.) It's good for the government to encourage growth.

... crap I lost my train of thought. stupid coworker. never mind

I was planning on saying something about migration is not the best answer but I completely forgot now. =_="

I think it is a good idea to try and encourage women to have children (actually thats a lie, I hate children), and since there are a lot of carreer women today who see a child as an anchor, something that might get in the way of their carreer/life, an incentive is needed. The problem is that handing out money isn't a solution, its just a bribe. What really needs to change is attitudes. Please don't misinterpret that as a "women should stay at home and raise the kids" comment, what I mean is, throughout our lives, a great emphasis is placed on being successful and making money (one of the effects of a capitalist society), rather than raising a family (sorry if that sounds sexist).

It won't. I'm split between "I'll be dead anyways at that point" and "we should at least try to avoid the death of billions of people after going over the global carrying capacity".

    Who cares.
Humans are stupid... they think in countries, states, communities, whatever.

Every 1st world nation has declining population at the moment.

So what, who cares... I dont try to focus my life on the problems of a pathetic state or area... more on myself, because thats what's important.
Sorry if that sounds selfish, at least its honest.

crap, I forgot where but a few years ago I read an article about the maximum amount of people the earth can hold. It's not just a food problem, there is also energy or the body heat all these people will produce ... I can't remember the details but we should think about some kind of birth control ... or leave it to the next generations.

I think there is enough people in the world for now. Babies are always popping out. But I understand why they would want to push for more kids. I just don't really think increasing the world population would be a wise idea.

By the way, why is it limited to professional women?

Well in Countries such a Japan they are offering economic incentives, like some $3000-4000 for the birth of a child, but I think its limited to Tokyo. An economically bait is always more attractive.

But I can't see any solution on the "global carrying capacity" I've read that near 2050 china will allready be over 1,5 billion. Even though they have put a birth limit per famlily.

We need a world adoption agency, I think. Parents from developed nations (couples or single parents, as long as they can properly raise a child) should be allowed to adopt orphaned kids from other nations - particularly third-world ones - to raise them. That allows developed nations with decreasing populations to repopulate, and also helps take children from impoverished nations where their lives wouldn't be as happy or as long. Of course, that also would help parents who want to adopt kids. Everyone's happy.
