Im conducting a poll to see how many people here actually use their console to watch a HD movie like Blu-ray or HD-DVD.
I have a ps3/xbox360 and I primarly use it to watch HD movies.

Just a question... does it even make a difference to watch a movie that's on Blu-ray or HD-DVD, and not just a simple DVD?
I mean sure, if you're extreamly picky... but this is like saying "well MP3s don't sound as good as ____ because they are compressed!" but to be honest, they sounds just as great as any other format with the right head/earphones or speakers.
So, is it worth the great money?

to be honest, its not worth the money unless you really want to spend on it. And even then the future of these formats are very uncertain.
To benifit from the HD formats, you would need a HDTV and some way to play them like a PS3 for blu-ray or a HDDVD player.
If you have a regular tv, you can forget about it, you can stick with dvds since its all the same resolution on standard tvs.
You are taking a gamble by chosing one of the format, and you are wasting money to have both while the other format fails.
@ chuu speaking overall, yeah there's NO HUGE difference between the two.
but format wars ftl.
and "maybe" this should go into the games section....
and to just answer the question, i sometimes use mine to watch movies.

No, I think it could be the right section... it's not really talking about games... so :P but I don't know.
And thanks for the clarification. Yes, I heard about the format wars. :/ It's sad.
And I guess, so the only real reason you'd want to get HD-DVDs or Blu-rays is to... show off? :P

1080p is the only way to go for movies.
If you can't spot any difference going from 480i/p to 1080p, good for you. You won't be irritated when you see low quality videos like I do.
And here i sit, still being happy with movies on VHS...
This line is a 100% truth, I never want to see "The Godfather" on DVD, or any sharper format. As the picture not being super sharp gives a certain feeling too the movie that I can't help but love.
And I dislike The terminator on DVD, as at several occations you can see where Arnolds make-up ends and his face starts, due too the brightness and sharpness of the quality. I don't want to know how obvious that'd be with HD-DVD quality...
There's a big difference between the qualities...
we got both types at home.
But still, it's not gonna ruin the whole experience. Both can get the point (the tv show/movie/whatever) across. =D

Meh. I'm not upgrading until I'm sure which format's gonna reign supreme. Remember Betamax and LD? Yea.
