Okay, I'm going to TRY and give an answer because I'm a NICE PERSON.

    1) Most people who read comic books are the type of people who want to buy them, not download them, because they're nerds who live in their mother's basement and care about getting the first edition and crap like that.

    2) American licenses of Japanese comics are way behind the Japanese releases or haven't released them at all.

    3) American comic books suck, gtfo.

Hahahaha...!!!! And people who read manga are not nerds at all, no? Nor do they want to buy their mangas, or are still supported by their parents, right?

Well, no, not quite as much. American comic book readers tend to be either kids or extreme nerds; Japanese comic readers can really be anyone who likes a story since they attract a large audience (plus I wouldn't say the entire Japanese population are nerds). Well, except the otaku. =P

You could have asked in the feedback section or just PM'ed a mod...

But anyways, I am kind of interested in the question as well. I would imagine its because of the differences in the crowd that is attracted to manga/comics too (as mentioned by Digi). Manga seems to attract more international interest, so it has a more vivacious online community (thus we see all the scanlations and translations as well). Also, comics are more closely associated with children and are specifically geared towards a younger crowd, while manga tends to hold a more respected role (in Japan, at least) and are geared for much wider audiences and have many more genres and age groups aimed at.

Meh. If it had been for Japanese comics we would have banned him on the spot. What makes Western comics that much different except for the fact that they aren't mentioned or discussed as much?
