^ You didn't know that he was effectively a military dictator?

The only real change is that he's become unpopular now and he's apparently trying to stay power despite that.

    Oh, I knew.
I was just hoping that with Bhutto coming into the country again, things would get better. I didn't want another South America/Mid-20th century Middle East/pretty much any government we support for political and military rather than social reasons----thing.

Quite ironic how history tends to repeat itself, but somewhere else.

Hopefully the problem will be resolved soon, there are people paying high price for such decisions...and it's not me, but we had so called "war emergency" state which was as bad 25 years ago.

And I thought this thread would be about : http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/7075501.stm

Curveball was "not only a liar, but also a thief and a poor student instead of the chemical engineering whiz he claimed to be".

German intelligence agents warned the US in a letter that there was no way to verify Mr Alwan's claims.
    And yet...

About Musharraf, well, what was interesting for the USA is that he was a dictator opposed to Talebans, both aspects being seen as positive.

Well, that one, too, I guess.

I'm kinda missing how both of these topics affect the US...

But, I'm a bit air headed sometimes...

    Someone care to explain?

^ Actually, it has affected the lives of Iraqi civilians more than the USA itself, but nevertheless, when the USA used this lie as a proof to invade another country, it did reflect on its credibility, too.
Idem when you chose a dictator to be your ally and treat him as if he was a nice guy (though he doesn't seem to be too bad)

Well I'm glad you have, cause the government probably won't.
And hey, it wouldn't be the first time something like this has happened.
