Thread: Curse/Swear Words

I don't put any more weight on "swear words" than other words. To me, they're all the same. Words are words. I'll say whatever the hell I want. It's time to break out of our myopic view of the world. Whose idea was it anyway to designate a group of words as "swear words"?

I love my swear words. Without it, I could not hold a conversation.

People probably have a different vocabulary depending on where they are and what they know to be acceptable in that setting. Like at work no curse words, out in public perhaps some, and around friends they may use them the most often. If regardless of where they are, every sentence has to end with a curse word like it's some kind of substitute for an exclamation point, people may look down on them and think less of whatever it was they had to say.

Meh, personally I find that it just waters down my vocabulary. Plus I hate it when I see a bunch of little kinds swearing their heads off while talking to their friends and especially towards older people.

from everyones reaction: I conclude that if you want to emphasize the things you want to say. the best adjective to add is a curse word. L_L

some are OK in some situations, but not with ladies or kids around... older people know all of them so why hide it?

Hmmmmm... Where I come from (Malaysia) people find it a novelty to swear in some obscure language (when I was in school lots of the guys liked to yell out "SHIBAI!!!" when something goes wrong). In my view swearing isnt something you should do with people you respect, like friends or family, or people you want to make a good impression to, like girls, kids and strangers. My close friends too arent the sweary type but they like to make up their own, meaningless swear-words just to fool around with each other (mostly pronounciations from various languages haphazardly cobbled together). Other than that we have the typical 'sup-dude conversation-type. ^^

My few thoughts on ppl who swear constantly...

First, it shows how dumb you are since you have such a poor vocabulary that you cant think of words that replace "fuck" or "bitch" or anything else.

Second, it's annoying as hell.

Third, 99.5% of the time it portrays the wrong message. Well, i mean in a debate, not necessarily in a regular conversation, which in that case is just kind of rude when you swear that much. Going back to the debating part, once you start swearing it goes into the "you pissed me off, now i'm just going to cuss you out." Which has nothing to do with what you were debating about, so which is a big reason why i try not to swear too much.

I only curse when I'm really angry, which isn't THAT often.

I rarely drop F-bombs. When I'm mad I say stuff like "shit", "hell", and "damn". Though, I'm good at training my tongue to say "heck" and "crap" instead. I gotta curve it in front of parents, church, and at work. (you don't want little 8 year olds going to their mommies and being "Wanna hear a new word I heard my counselor say?????????")

"hell" isn't bad, is it? I use it quite often.
and imo, shit = crap. niether is better or worse then the other.
