Banning of the latest Harry Potter book

Four of the biggest book store in Malaysia are working together to ban the selling of the latest Harry Potter book?!
well, it all due to the fact that some store are selling the book at a much lower price. and i mean at a SUPER LOW price (about 50% lower from the original selling price) I seriously don't know how can some store get these books at such a low price...
Isn't it a bit unfair for the writer and everyone that working so hard to publish this book?
and it's also unfair for those who had already bought this book at a higher price...

are you retarded? the fools that didn't shop around to compare prices in the first place should deserve to pay at a higher price and should not whine about it. Stores will sell books at lower prices to increase competition. Although it's not economically sound to do this based on the fact that if everyone had similar prices eventually your stock will sell at the set price to begin with but if one store sells their books at a much cheaper price then all the people looking to buy the book would go there to buy the book, that store effectively monopolizing sales until the other stores match their price. then they're back to square one again.

the big book stores in Malaysia are retarded if they want to ban Harry Potter.

it's not like i'm retarded. one month before the launching of this Harry Potter book, the big book stores here already set up counters for advance ordering for the latest Harry Potter book.
so, lot of Malaysia Harry Potter fans already paid deposit to book for this book in order to get the book as soon as possible.
but, unfortunately two day ago, an advertisement of a store selling this Harry Potter book was published in our local newspaper. and the price is about 50% lower compare to the big book store!
it's not like those buyers didn't compare prices, maybe it's just the wrong timing to book for the book? is it wrong to book this Harry Potter book in the 1st place?
the moral of this story is... early birds not necessary will get the worms, is it? +_+ haha

I don't know about you guys but in the states it an automatic, 40% plus another 30%. So, all I am hearing is blah blah blah.

That's how market economics work. What the store is after is a larger maket share, and they're willing to take a short-term loss for it.

Especially if you consider that the price of the other books is probably the same as other places even new customers would be tempted to buy the last book by that price thus having to buy the previous books as well.

I doubt they are really taking a loss considering that the store gets the books for almost nothing. Compared to what we are actually paying.

Yes, and it also serves as brand reinforcement. People will get the impression that this bookstore is cheaper than the others, and that could get them more commerce in the future. Long-term price dumping can also drive competitors out of business, but given that we're talking about a small bookstore they probably just are after a bigger market share.

If they're selling their books for half of what everybody else charges they're almost inevitably selling at loss. Of course, all the other bookstores could be overcharging horribly for their books.

Either way, all stores in a country sould get their books for the same price. They're all buying from the same publisher after all.

The guy just said 50% lower than the orginal selling price. That isn't half of what everone is selling at it's just half of the marked price, and at least here, harry potter is an automatic best seller, so it starts selling at 40% off marked price (depending on what store), plus what ever store discouts that you get, so it isn't anysort of amazing discount, and I'm pretty much postive the stores aren't opperating at a loss.
