Thread: @Theist Members: What do you think the afterlife is like?

Today I found myself reading some books (more like reading random parts of books). Those books were about philosophy, beliefs, occultism, and the ilk. Anyways, I read a lot of things about souls, angels, demons, life after death, and I remembered some of the ideas I had when I was a theist, amongst them, what I used to believe/think an afterlife would be/look like.

My purpose is not to start a discussion, but I made this thread out of mere curiosity. So, I'd like to know how you picture yourself in the afterlife. How do you think it looks like? What does people do there? What do you think one can find there? And other things you may have thought, or been told about it.

Another thing, if you believe in things like time traveling, different outcomes/results/possibilities of certain events (the same events), different dimensions. Do you think that all those possibilities/dimensions lead to the same afterlife (Heaven, or however it may be known as, in religions aside from Judaism/Christianism/Islamism), or do you think that there is an afterlife for each dimension? For example, you are a Christian, believe that there are different dimensions, and that there is only one Heaven for every single dimension; so, you would meet all the possible different versions of yourself in Heaven. (I reckon this one as an odd question, but somehow, I was trying to think what may people think about this.)

PS: Please, if you are not a theist, do not come to this thread to start a discussion on why there is no afterlife, no God, or whatever. Also, if you are a theist, do not boast about your beliefs, like saying that the unbelievers will suffer, or things like that.

Hi! I'm a Christian! I believe in heaven and hell!

Okay... now time for the not too obvious...

I believe heaven is a wonderful place. I imagine the city of heaven to be many gold giant castles/mansions. When we get to heaven, it will be friggin AWESOME! We getta have these gorgeous new perfect bodies and be surrounded by all our brothers and sisters throughout history. I getta see all the famous Christian people! Like Moses! and Paul! and Peter!!! I wonder which one is gonna be sitting on Jesus's right hand... (My money is on Paul). We will be singing, praising, and worshiping God. And, we'll be loving every minute of it.

I can't wait to meet God! I wanna talk with Jesus! Some reason, I always imagine a beach-like scene with the sun setting and myself talking to Jesus. I can be like, "so.. God... why did ya do this _____? and this????" It'll be awesome!!!

At the moment, the best part about going to heaven will be I getta see my grandma again! And this time, we'll actually be able to TALK FLUENTLY with each other! WOOT WOOT! That's something I neva was able to do on earth... (my grandma passed away about a month ago)

I don't believe in the afterlife, I just believe that our conciousness ceases to exist. Thats why I'm not scared of what will happen when I die, I'll just never know about it.

^Ceasing to exist as in your own persona ceasing to exist, but your soul transmigrating through different cycles, reincarnating as another person each time, or ceasing to exist as in the non-theistic death? [Remember, this is a topic for theistic people that believe that there is something (or at least that something happens) after death.]

@cpr: May I ask what did you mean with "gorgeous and new perfect bodies"? Do you think you can expand on that? How do you picture a gorgeous and perfect body? Or did you mean gorgeous and perfect as in a level that a human cannot understand?

Oh sorry, I read @theist as @ athiest. Yeah I'm an atheist.

I dont believe in afterlife too,i believe that when someone dies he is being reborn as someone else and there are many people that believe that they remember what they was in their previous life.
Another thing is the deja-vu that could be a glimps of our pre-life but this sounds stupid because of everyone being reborned so maybe there is heaven and hell and the new life is for people that havent complete their previouse life...hmm?

Huh... I've always envisioned death as the next level after sleep. Every time someone who's dying (or has died already) describes the experience its always like going to sleep they say. So death, to me, is a never ending dream. You dream about what you want. Now if your Christian I'd assume your dream would be about "heaven"... thus you're happy anywhere. No I don't think theres an actual place anywhere called Heaven nor do I believe in a such thing as a human soul. But thats just the apathetic part of my agnosticism =D

Sometimes I think our soul pass on in some way, and that we then have to experience the consequences of our life, but because I'm kind of into philosophy I am partly open to many other theories too. At least if there is a heaven and hell I don't picture heaven as a cloudy place up in the sky, or hell full of flames and stuff, even though I am a Christian.

has anyone read "5 people you meet in heaven" ? something like that would be a nice afterlife. for those that haven't, it's about meeting pivotal people of your life, and talking to them - having them explain to you what they couldn't before. and having some sense of conclusion.

as for what i *think* afterlife is about, i have no idea. hopefully i won't find out anytime soon

When I was a muslim/theist, I wanted a place where I can read every piece that has been written by humankind and also a place where I can simulate alternate worlds.Well, now looking back at those times as an atheist,I think I wanted to be a god,and that was my heaven.Oh,and I did't think much about hell.
