Thread: wikipedia syndrome....anyone have it?

I go to wikipedia if search engine results are returning too much unrelated junk. Without something like a Global Internet Library where the contents of all but the newest books could be read and searched online., Without that, even if I found pointers to the right information and the books which contain it, I would still need to visit a local library to get those books an read them. Everything can go fast up until that last part.

anyone go on google and type random stuff or look at random information that you normally don't look at?

that happens to me sometimes in wiki.

But I don't type in random stuff in google or anything like that. Usually the reason I go to wiki in the first place is to find out about something I dnt know about, but then I cant remember how I find out about the things I dnt know about in the first place =o.

Also, urban dictionary goes hand in hand with wiki for me ^^

Have you all played the wikipedia game?
It takes at least two. Everyone gets assigned a word or subject by someone else and everyone clicks "Random Article." Then you just follow the blue links, and whoever manages to get to their word first wins!
You may think this is impossible, but it's really not. I've gotten to muffin from some battleship from WWI in less than 3 minutes.

yea! it's so random yet you feel compelled to do so! the curiosity is overwhelming!

oh man, that is a deadly combination. wastes so much time for me! lol

like i'll be watching a documentary on tv or something. and then all kinds of strange topics come up in my head and i make mental notes of additional things. then i quickly go to the computer and look them up.

just like when reading a book or article. you come across a strange word or topic that you never heard about. you look it up. then that article entry brings up more ideas and words and you are forced to look those up. and then those have more ideas and words and you feel the need to dig in deeper! and then next thing you know, you went from something to something else that is totally not related to the original idea of interest!

i would also like to add imdb.com to that deadly combo. especially when you read up the trivia of the actors or the trivia of the movies.
