about Prostitution?

I know its a tough subject, but I think some deep discussion could be had from it. Would you ever use a prositute? do you think its morally wrong to be one? Could you accept the fact that people actually do this to pay bills or work through college? Does your opinion change based on who does it and how much they charge? What comes to mind first - the ones walking the streets or the high priced ones you order over the phone or even the ones you pay to accompany you to parties or events where you don't want to go alone? Does your opinion change based on whether they're male or female? Gay or Straight? Do you know why most people go to prostitutes?*


Well I was discussing this on my last day of class (Human Sexuality of course) and it was a pretty good discussion. I kinda think that its a legitimate job. It puts you at very high risk for injury on the job (lol), but some people, this is what theyre good at, its what they enjoy, or they simply don't have a choice. I think they are necessary and they are not evil. Because some day will come and you just may want something new and your wife/husband/girlfriend/boyfriend may just say "Oh. Hell. no I'm not doing that!". You may just feel lonely. Or you may just be curious. I guess its important to know the different kinds of prostitutes as well sooo... starting from the cheapest to the most expensive (the danger (getting arrested, diseases, etc.) level goes down as the price goes up... how very unsurprising) the names are kinda self explanatory

Streetwalkers => Bar Prostitutes => Hotel Prostitutes => Brothel Prostitutes => Massage Parlor Prostitutes => Escorts => Call Girls and Courtesans

I'd never use it myself - it goes against my personal morals - but I don't really see an issue with legalizing it. That would probably actually be better, since it could protect the basic human rights of the workers (if they get raped or physically abused, for example) and prevent their abuse from pimps, since pimps might not exist if prostitutes were part of some kind of organization. Legalization would also allow STDs to be combatted, since rules could be imposed relating to that (mandatory disease checks each month, for example? mandatory condom use?). Also, it would probably improve the lives of those workers - hopefully, society's view towards them would become more positive, so that we don't look down on them as the lowest of the low - and prevent them from needing to turn to (often illegal) drugs. Legalization could also prevent a lot of child sex workers - like the teenagers who run away from home and don't have anywhere to go. And finally, the police wouldn't need to go after prostitutes anymore, which means we can make cities a safer place otherwise.

Honestly, there are going to be prostitutes no matter what happens... legalizing the sex trade is just a good way of organizing it so that everyone's lives are better.

I think it should be legal. Then it can be regulated (Testing for STD's) and taxed. That would get rid of the pimps. Take a look at Reno. The "house" system works. Also, they have workshops for men on how to be a better lover (find G spots and proper oral).

Overall, it's the person's body. They should do with it as they as choose.

Prostitution is a pretty terrifying trade. They have no choice over their customers, get paid according to an overseer and generally have a tough time changing tracks because it is far easier to get stuck in a drug-riddled world with "easy" money. I thought that maybe if you had women conduct the trade legally, it wouldn't be as large of a problem... but no, everyone gets greedy and power corrupts. That same argument goes for government control. Suppose a far-right oriented government comes to power with legalized prostitution implemented. A hidden agenda in reducing tax money and basic funding? Maybe. Probably. That being said, there's no easy way to make it a safe trade.

I suppose you could try a public lobby group or union sort of thing.

Why hire a prostitute when one can just get a normal partner/friend/associate. (a life)

as for legalization, I'm all for it since prostitution is going to around no matter what people do

you can't ban male sex-drives, that'll erupt the universe. not to mention the loss of income from adult entertainment.

I don't have a big problem with the idea of people prostituting themselves since that's most likely obvious out of desperation they're doing it since it doesn't pay THAT well and there's a lot of high risks (pregnancy, STDs, HIV/AIDS). I'm sure people who are prostitutes did not wake up one morning and think "I want to grow up to be a prostitute!!!!"

I would never hire a prostitute. Not for me.

I don't think this something you CAN legalize OR tax.

Someone who wants to sleep with a prostitute while being married will NOT want to pay for this service if there's tax. Cause, in order to have something taxed, you would need to keep a record of something. This is something you DO NOT want to have records of!

It kinda depends on the status of the prostitue sometimes, I think.
It's more likely a half naked, scraggly man with bristles would find a pub prostitue rather than a Courtesan.
And you'd get more money in a higher status too... right? 0_o'
I think it's mainly because you can't tell who actually wants to be a prostitute from who is being forced that easily to legalize it.
I'd have to be helluva desperate, on the streets with my parents dying from some unknown sickness to volunteer myself as a prostitute.
I wouldn't call one, though D=
God... there are probably kids out there born and spend a childhood in sex trade.
They might grow up and no nothing else but that.
