To tell the truth push ups are the all around best, it helps the tri's, bi's, chest, back and shoulder muscles.

dont even worry about your abs till your 18, and you have been working out seriously for a few months.

on the subject of weights vs exercise it all depends on what your goal is.

@saizou : maybe you didn't let enough time to answer

for abs, the best method i saw is of English invention and basically consist of going into a tanning cabin while putting a semi-transparent plastic paper onto your abs. This paper is darker where your abs are supposed to be so less light goes by for these areas, creating a visual effect of relief directly in the tanning
It is an effective and painless method.

Of course, you should take care to position the paper well xD

^Thats a sad response to a sadder suggestion.

If you're trying to gain strength really quicly (like at the star of a sport season), you should probably use weights since they're generally easier to use and the instructions to use them are easy.
But if you're trying to get generall fitness or trying to ease back into shape, non-weight exercises like push-ups and regular ab crunches, sit ups work more parts holistically than weights do and give you a better body balance.

It was the first thing I thought of when I saw the topic.

But then of course one arm would be really buff whereas the other one would be weak.

I'm trying to gain back my muscles.
Years of working in the office caused my muscles to disappear.
So I should do push ups then?
Will clapping push ups work more?

Also, I heard crunches are bad for the neck.

Gain muscles? You need weight training then.
Push ups are overall good, they complement an exercise routine nicely.
About the crunches, it depends on your body and how you make them, i never had any problems with crunches tough.
    Greetings earthlings.
