"de" is not short for "desu."

in the example you provided, "de" can be translated into being "and" ...
"I like music, and jazz and rock are my favorites." (I know not exactly gramatically correct, but I really don't care.)

also, after the "de" there should be a comma instead of a period.
"ongaku ga suki de, toku ni jazu to rokku ga suki desu"

I remember grinning when I found this out

Yeah, Aikido, Wife (kanai) = "inside the house"
    Husband (shuujin) = "lord/master"

Though... these days people tend to use less archaic and sexist words. Like, "tsuma" for wife, or... ah shit, I forgot the one for husband (but it's not very common )

And csuti, I always assumed your name was supposed to be "Cutesy Bear", but spelt in a deliberately messed up way...

    *sigh* ;_;
    no no and noo.
    chu-ti-be-ah

"ti" being the same as "tick" w/o the "ck" and
"be" being the same as "bed" w/o the "d"

I didn't make a typo when creating my nick :P
I'm not that bad at typing.

Oh no, I didn't mean typo. I meant doing it on purpose to be funky. That's why I said "a deliberately messed up way". You know, like all that leet shit or whatever that's supposed to be. I'm not even gonna pretend I know what that's all about. I had sex this weekend.

Back on topic, if we're combining kanji, how about FUN plus SOUND making MUSIC? That's quite cool Music is fun sounds!

    楽 + 音 = 音楽
    fun + sound = music
