.....whoooo?
Good riddance.
He was the #1 lobbyist in Congress for Paramount Pictures Corp., Sony Pictures Entertainment Inc., Warner Bros., Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc., Universal Studios Inc., Walt Disney Co. and 20th Century Fox Film Corp. Also founder and head of the Motion Picture Association Of America from when he created it in 1966 to when he left in 2004. He was famous for creating the current movie ratings system in America that gives films their G, PG, PG-13, R, and NC-17 (formerly X) ratings.
Since these ratings effectively decide what films get marketed, his organization basically picks and chooses what films get to be released... unchecked. I know theres something obscenely unconstitutional about that but im not sure what... >
Just go watch "This Film Is Not Yet Rated" and youll know everything about who he is and what he "stands" for. Which imho is fascist oppression and censorship.

Did you mean Jack Valenti? I have less against him than with some associated with the RIAA. He was president of the MPAA for what, 38 years, and I just saw him as the protectionist front man for an industry that has had a chronic problem of failing to embrace new technology and changing trends.
among many other things... my biggest qualm with him is that his ratings system has no actual base. Its private, secret, and unchecked and completely biased against independent film. If I want to watch Boys Dont Cry I want to see the story as it happened to the directors discretion. Not what a bunch of random parents think is appropriate for whoever. Their censorship of movies stifles creativity and is a vast injustice to film as a storytelling device.

I never saw a need to change the rating system, the old system seemed to work fine. Speaking of censorship and curbing creativity, did you hear about the FCC report to congress asking that they limit tv violence to late evening?

I dont mind the actual ratings themselves, they're great! What I do mind is that the people who choose what gets rated what are unregulated unknowns and I HATE the fact that someone I do not know has complete control over what I get to watch and what is in what I get to watch. That pisses me off more than anything you could care to comprehend.
As for the TV violence... wth are they talking about? most network TV shows with even the least amounts of violence occurs prime time from 8pm - 11pm... how late do they want it >.<
