Default At times like these, I wish the good old days of lynch mobs...

(the people crying are the girls' relatives, shocked at the verdict)

This man kidnapped two girls from their beds. Bound them, took them to an underground dungeon. Raped them. Then left them to die of asphyxia.

He had previously raped a 12 year old girl back in '91. He was caught after a manhunt, so he was obviously running from something. The defense attorney ripped apart the statements made by traumatized kids. Of course they would be inconsistent.

    This just makes me sick.

I didn't watch the video so I'm wondering if the verdict was given by a judge or a jury.

If it was a judge: what a bitch.

If it was a jury: what a bunch of ignorant bastards.

What kind of people would advocate that kind of action and not take into account the trauma of the victims.

Not to sound insensitive (as if I care) but there had to be a good damn reason he was acquitted. In the times of DNA being used in forensics, the testimonies should have had little to do if there was scientific proof to back up the girls claims.

It really sucks cause I've heard about a lot of cases like these were the person gets away with what they did.

Not to sound insensitive...but that's a load of horseshit.

The trial only lasted six days. There was no semen, as the girls said he used a condom. No fingerprints, as he used gloves. What happened was the girls were suffocating, and managed to break each others duct taped hands with their teeth, escape, and call the cops. The cops found the room, didn't find him for four days. He said he was using to hide drugs. Drugs that no one ever found.

Well if they have no proof other than circumstantial evidence and a teary story then why should I be surprised that he was acquitted. The defense attorney didn't fabricate the holes in their story. If this was such a huge tragedy then maybe they should have built a better case against him.

    Like what?
Two girls kidnapped. That was proven, and reported.
Two girls had had sex, this was proven by hospital examination.
    Girls had been duct taped.
Girls had been left in a concrete dungeon, proven by the blood in the place.
Found in a hidden dungeon on a child rapists property.
Man was running from police for days, which he would not really have done if it was just marijuana.

All this is fact. Proven fact. What more do you think the prosecution thought they needed? The girls' stories didn't match perfectly. They had just been kidnapped, bound, raped, and left to die a horrible death. I think that would make my memory a bit incoherent too, SD.

Yes but all of this does not prove he raped them. Yes its all sick and dandy but its not ironclad. Im not claiming the guy is innocent, but a MAJOR part of arguing (lawyers im talking about) is finding the holes in your own argument and sealing them up or rendering them useless. The fact that the prosecution couldnt do that (because if they could have then they would have won) says volumes to me about the conditions of the case. You may say "Zomg! But look there was blood and ducttape!" and the defense will say, "blood from where?", "ducttape used on what?", "wheres the proof that it was used for what you say it was", and considering the time spent before reporting it to cops, even I myself have a hard time thinking its all just a open and shut case. Its nice in fantasy to think that the bad guys always get whats coming to them, but this is the real world and you can't lock someone up if theres a shadow of a doubt that they are innocent. Its cases like these that you see 20 years later pop up with new evidence that exonerates the accused. They couldn't prove he did it so whatever... too bad for them.

FYI This is the reason why I think rape should automatically put you away for life.

Well I'm glad youre speaking for yourself. Because in "traumatic" situations my memory works better than ever.

WTF????? There were the victims' testimony, I mean people can't just 'not take that into account' even if they were "traumatized". And even if he didn't rape them, he can't just lock people up in his little jail thing and just wait for them to die. Ummmmmmm.... i smell foul play.......

That... sickens and disgusts me. While I see SD's point, I imagine he escaped on a technicality. This seems like it ought to be a cut and dry case. Two victims, prior conviction, inconsistent evidence/testimony.

I wonder if the case would have played out differently in NY as compared to SC.
