Thread: What Would You Do?

I just got into an argument because after skating all day yesterday and my legs hurting like crazy I decided to take my suit that I wore on Easter to the asian owned cleaners around the corner from my house instead of the black owned cleaners five blocks away. Soapbox speeches were made about how every other ethnic group supports their own businesses and that I should do the same no matter what. Considering both have comparable prices and levels of service/quality I understand but dont want to have to go out of my way just to get the same thing done for the excuse of "supporting the black community". Honestly I don't care im one of those objective assholes who judges a buisness based on convenience and quality of service not who runs the place. Furthermore with 99.9% of the other black owned businesses in my neighborhood are either hair salons or liquor stores - all the past "support of the black community" hasn't really netted any real progression or diversity in the neighborhood economy.

Now what would you do in my position? Take the "long" walk (painfully) and support your ethnic group or take the short walk and visit the business that isn't from your culture? Mind you both are for the sake of argument the same with the exception of ownership.

Do the same as you. I basically support your argument all the way. I mean, it's not like you seem to personally know the black owned business so you don't owe them anything.

if they do the same job at the same price, then of course i'll go to the one where it is easier for me (in your case, the nearest)..
Though i could go to the other one if the owner was a friend or a close enough family member...

Personally, I think our whole society would be better off if everyone stopped making all their little speeches about equality between races and actually live by it. Your descision of where to do ANYTHING shouldn't be affected by what kind of people work there. THAT is racist.

Hahaha, oh wow. The hell I would bother to put into any more work than necessary... If someone told me to 'Support the community' by doing extra effort, paying more for something or having to go farther; [SD's case] expect a bitch slap.

It's not like everyone in your same culture is your friend.

Tell them they are racist, make a banner, sell your story to the newspaper, make money. =D

Seriously though, they are being racist, you shouldn't have to adjust your life to suit their biased opinions.

Yeah I totally agree with you. It's not fair to be bitched at in this day and age for someone so simplistic as your choice of laundry service.

I skimmed through the first post so I don't have a clear understanding of what's going on (by "skimmed" I mean "didn't read"). However, I can still give advice. When you come to a dilemma, ask yourself "What would Jesus do?".

I'm pretty sure Jesus would wash his own laundry.
