human genome project

okay ill add the rest later when i am at home. ATM i'm at school so yeah. Basically I recently became interested in the human genome project and I was wondering if anyone else shares such an intrest. Ive read sever things on the matter such as things on MPD that would be created through manipulating the gene. playing with innate abilitys that are programed into the gene. Curing deseases. getting rid of the certain ressesive genes or preventing them from showing. enhancing the human, and so on. I have read a shit load on this for the past few days so I can't exactly say everything in a minute that i'm typing this.....well two or three. Anywhop.


just wanted to see what the people here would say or how they respond or what they think about altering the human gene through gene manipulation to better or worsen a human or organism period.

as long as the gene manipulation is for curing diseases, i think its okay. I have a question though, is this project going to mess with human appearance, if yes wouldn't you think that's going a bit far?

Umm.. you guys know that they have already finished that project right?

They finished it in 2001 or something I think.

well, i was talking more about the thought of messing with the gene but okay. didnt know they finnished it. like i said i just strated reading up on this and google doesnt send you to the best of info so yeah

Just so you know... It's actually extremely difficult to do large scale gene-manipulation on a full-grown creature.

Pretty much the only vector technique we have is viral encoding, and an injection of virii is only going to modify 30-40% of the cells around the injection site, with a cubic rate of decrease thereafter. [Or would it be geometric?]

Note: this is because you do NOT want to inject someone with a replicating virus that will have a large impact – it will infect others, unleashing a potentially fatal mod

well, the human genome has been calculated already. So has many other organism's genomes. I did research on one of em. I got an article published on NCBI. (That large database place...)
It's actually a very tedious process and not as exciting as it sounds.
