I really hope this topic can evolve in to some sort of sociological discussion, questions like the ones about public nudity, immigration, ESL, and family issues really had me stumped, the answers were clear cut but I found myself snagged and unusually slow to respond. I fully support the guy that decides every day to walk outside naked and piss on his tree, but I dont support the same guy walking down the street at full salute hitting on girls or walking past my kids. So hopefully a good exchange can come from this other than just people posting their responses

Okay... why the FUCK do they not have a "kick the guy out of your house and ground your son" for the child-having-gay-sex option. That's kind of sad. The kid is seventeen... and maybe it's just old-fashioned, but I do not want my hypothetical future seventeen-year-old child having sex, whether it's gay sex or not.

I expected that. Some of those "liberal" answers really concerned me - smoke pot with your kids? Watch porn with them? Who would let their fourteen-year-old do that at all, let alone JOIN them? I wasn't shocked to find out that I was against such things, but I was shocked that there are people out there who would do that.

I scored higher than 84 compassion and 83 tolerance. I guess I would let my kids get by on a lot of things, but maybe because it talks about kids my age ;P. (I'm 16)

Although I chose it, I would not smoke pot with my kid. I wouldn't flush it either. I wouldnt lecture him. If he only does it in his room I dont care, He'll hopefully outgrow it or I'll tell him something that won't piss him off so he'll use what I say instead of blowing me off as a fascist asshole

Those "liberal" choices where a bit fucked up...
The sex things I was fine with, I'd enjoy having kids mature enough to understand how to safely practice sex, and it would certainly help keep em stable – so long as the partners are good choices, of course. Otherwise it's time to break out the chaingun, Drano, and a truckload of napalm.

But yeah, the pot thing, I'd tell him to make sure he knows what the fuck he's doing, and make sure he understands the mind-altering affects, not to mention their destructive effects. Though, I'm assuming by the time I'm able to have kids this age, that nanotech is a real possibility, so I probably wouldn't have to be too worried about permanent side-affects.

Sort of typed this up as I went:

Pornography - I'm not at all sure what they mean by "obscene." I'm against some things on principle, like child pornography and the like. But as long as the people depicted are consenting adults and no one is in danger, I think it should be legal.

Prostitution - Again, I'm not really sure what they're referring too. In my opinion prostitutes should never be treated as criminals unless they have commited some other crime. But there are cases, like if the prostitutes are teenagers, where the soliciting should definitely be prosecuted. The prostitution itself isn't really the big issue for me, it seems to be all the other factors that get involved and associated; the drugs and the abuse or whatever. Would making it all completely legal and monitoring it more closely be a solution to that, or would it not make a difference? I'm not an expert, so there's no way I could give an opinion on that.

Protests - It doesn't mention what KIND of protests! Peaceful protests should be a right, but if there's any violence or illegal behaviour then yes, you should be punished.

Military drafts - I'd say it depends on why they're thinking of drafting. If the safety of the country is in danger and no one steps forward due to laziness or cowardice, I wonder what other solutions could even be? Could we hire someone else to fight for us? Is that a viable option? Does it make us look weak and vulberable to the next country that thinks to invade? (And I've assumed an invasion because I don't think people should be drafted in order to conquer another country.)

Gay marriage - I think it should be legal, but no churches of any faith should be forced to perform the ceremony. What I mean is, if the couple finds a church that is willing to marry them, it should be recognized, but the government has no right to dictate the faith of anyone, and should not force anyone's hand to perform a marriage that conflicts with their personal beliefs (this because marriage is a religious thing - it's not like pharmacists refusing to sell the morning after pill based on their faith (which is stupid in my opinion)). Civil unions should (obviously, for me) be legal.

Curfews - I never even thought of this. Never had one. Might be a good idea for young children to have curfews in certain areas of large cities, but I think a city-wide curfew might be going too far.

Death penalty - I choose against. I'm also against people just sitting around doing time, though. I want to see them make themselves useful. Do community service of some kind or something. (And I support education being available in prisons. I had a man who had commited murder come in and talk to my Law 12 class, and taking classes while he was in prison was part of how he got his life back on track.)

Public nudity - I went with only in certain areas. I don't really want to see topless women wandering around the streets - I'm not really offended by it, or think "oh no the children!" - it's more of a modesty thing. Most people would probably look strange wandering around in just a swim suit, never mind topless - on a beach or places like that it makes sense. You just don't expect it in other places, and I personally wouldn't want to see it.

Homeless people asking for change - I don't like to give them money. No joke, they could spend it on anything, and I don't want it to go toward anything that will hurt more than help, like drugs, alcohol or cigarettes. I'll buy them food, but I won't give them money. (Although I've worked in soup kitchens - it's not like they don't have access to food if they just walk a few blocks. I've never had anyone refuse or be ungrateful when I've offered them food, though.) (Personally I'm all for giving these people the task of cleaning downtown and paying them for it. Why not? They live there, they should want it clean even more than I do. That's just an idea(l), though, I realize it's probably kind of unrealistic.)

People masturbating in the gym locker room - Uh, where's my "subtlely make noise without looking at them to let them know other people are around and it might be a good idea to move somewhere more private?" You know, without actually having to confront them?

I'm with Digi on there needing to be more options for kids. Having a discussion, oh yes, but if they're YOUNG I'm not giving ANY of that stuff back. No way. "Oh yeah sure, just have sex and watch porn and do drugs..." No. At the same time, I wouldn't want to punish them without having a serious discussion to make them understand why I'm against it first (I would punish for most of these the second time, no ifs or buts about it). At seventeen I might - might - be okay with the sex. But a serious discussion and "maturity assessment" would be in order. Sometimes you have to let your kids make their own mistakes (and this may or may not be one), but I want to keep mine as safe as possible and make them really think before they act. If they're ready for it and it's the choice they've seriously made, then me just telling them "no" won't accomplish anything, and might make them act in even more dangerous ways. I'd want to kind of strike a balance - give them support, but continue to be strict. Whatever I do, I don't want to alienate my kids, like Steal said. I have to keep in mind that, while they're my kids, they're not me, and our opinions and views on things will differ. Their safety and happiness has to be the first priority. Even if it's a choice I wouldn't make for myself, it may be the right one for them.

(However I'm opposed to drugs and smoking, and marijuana kind of combines the two. I wouldn't want my kid doing it under any circumstances. The pronography bugs me because of the age. I know bodily exploration is normal, but twelve seems much too young to me. I'd probably want to get a second opinion from the father before I did anything to the kid, and I wouldn't punish them, but my preference would be to stop it. Who lectures their husband over throwing a can in the garbage, for that matter? Honestly... One of my ex boyfriends started deliberately throwing cans in the garbage and dropping things on the floor because he knew it drove me insane. It was more of a joke than anything, and I'd rather just pick the stuff up and remind him than lecture him. Geez. Grown people shouldn't need to be lectured.)

Parenting seems way too hard. >___>

Yeah, Pornography... uh... yeah, I would've done it even sooner than 12 if I could've mangaged it.
Trust me, sexual maturity has very, very, little to do with the actual age of the body.

The death penalty thing though – far too limited. I want more choices – with advancing technology it will soon be possible to cryogenically freeze people, thus allowing their bodies and minds to be stored over very long periods of time without deteriation. Not to mention very, very, little cost. The only thing needed is the energy to keep the coolant... cool... Right, anyway, serial killers and the like should be stored for later use and deployment in advantageous situations – they threw away all the rights they had when they initiated their acts. More useless people such as rapists and such should either be treated or killed untill selective memory modification technology is feasible.

Selective Memory Modification? Maybe its the compassion talking but I'd rather rot in jail then have the government fucking around in my brain changing shit they think is wrong. I don't care what I did, no one fucks with my brain like that. They have no right and that is one threshold i'd not support unless said criminal gave EXPLICIT consent.
