    Haha this is such complete bullshit. Surely there's no way this senetnce will stand.

    200 years? The judge is an idiot. And, I assume, so is the defence attorney for not being able to sway him.

    People don't live 200 years. Calling each photo a separate offence is stupid, considering he wouldn't have acquired them all on 20 separate occassions. And the sentence being greater than that for rape or second degree murder? What kind of freak things those things are more socially acceptable? Child porn's bad, but I'd rather know there was a guy in my neighbourhood who enjoyed looking at kids occassionally in his home than a guy who went out and viciously raped and murdered people.

    And i'm not even speaking of the parents/relatives, as i'd prefer my children/relatives to be dead instead than being abused by some sickos somewhere >.>
    Although I disagree, I can respect you prefering to die rather than being violated. However, you are being rather inconsiderate to your parents, relatives and future children by imposing your desires/values over theirs.

    @TheGreatTree: That's true.

    Also (@shautieh), there's no indication as to what this "child porn" exactly was. While it would be horrible if they were explicit hardcore penetration pornography, chances are that they were more likely simple pictures of kids without clothes. I don't think that whatever the kid was subjected to was so great that they would be "better off dead".

    well, the article was speaking of abused children, not just naked ones...
    Also, i am taking into account that the judges have enough common sense so i doubt it was pubescent children either.

    So i guess that without fresh news about the content of the images, we won't be able to agree on this

    "Child Abuse" is a pretty vague term though. Just taking photos of naked kids in itself is a form of child abuse. Also, don't assume judges always have commonsense. There are alot of judges who have done stupid things in the past!

    at worst, if the guy thinks that the sentence is way too hard because the judge was being stupid, he can still make an appeal, right ?

    200 years? Hmmm, they could have simply said 'life imprisonment.' Have they come across anyone who had lived that long?

    As a follow-up, I agree about judges making stupid decisions. If you've heard/read anything about with hunts and the Inquisition, they could be classic examples...

    ...um, no.

    I have read some things about the Spanish Inquisition, and can honestly say that probably 90% of what people think happened in the inquisition is myth.
    Modern data suggests that only about 150,000 people were taken in by the Inquisition, and of those, maybe 3,000 were executed. Most of the torture devices attributed to the Inquisition(Iron Maiden, thumbscrews, ect.) were not actually used by the Inquisition and, though I would consider the trials to be largely unfair, they were not the mockeries of law and order they are thought of today. So yeah, not buying that.
