Default The Sad Side of a News Story You'll Never Get Out of the Media

About time for my bi-yearly Chit Chat thread again.

So found some news in a pretty strange place... Penny Arcade.
    http://www.penny-arcade.com/2007/02/21
Go to Gabe's Rant at the bottom.

Now there is no way to prove this is legit, but Gabe seems to think so, so guess you'll either trust him or drop it. Either way, you'll never get this kinda interview off the news.

Here's what's been going down if you missed it. Homeless man got murdered and it's all the fault of video games.

I hope Bubba gets ahold of the little shit.

This one's been making the forum rounds pretty well, third place I've seen it this week.

This topic's title is incorrect though, since the story made CNN. Here you go.

    wow. I read it all.

Well, it's friggin obvious why he blamed video games. It probably was a lesser sentence. The politics involved in the courtroom are ridiculous.

Now I feel sick to my stomach, After reading that womans letteri know ida beat the hell outta that kid. Hell even put him up for adoption. Disowned the bastard or whatever. Ive met kids like that and once that "Don't give a fuck" mentality sets in its there for good. Only (God forbid) religion or SERIOUS jail time is gonna change the way they think. I usually dont feel sorry for people, almost never, but I would console the parents and this woman, they seeming didn't deserve such a person in their lives. What pisses me off even more is since hes a minor he'll be released when hes 18...

I've always thought people like this (the criminals, not the homeless man) need to be shot.

I don't care if you blame insanity or games or drugs or bad upbringing or just phenomenally poor judgment, the fact remains that for one reason or another you were able to, of your own accord, kill someone for no reason whatsoever. The cause doesn't matter, the result does: they killed someone spontaneously. They're obviously too dangerous to ever let anywhere near society ever again, and life in prison without parole is equivalent to a death sentence anyway so why not just kill them?

    woah. You're overboard here...

Yea, he's a bastard... but I don't think his crime is severe enough to warrant the death sentence. Heck, there's people in prison for far worse crimes [multiple robbery, gang leaders, ect] and they're not given the death penalty!

Beginning with a strong rhetorical statement is good debating technique, as it both makes a solid first impression on those who are undecided regarding the issue and triggers hasty reactionary responses from those who disagree.

If killing someone for no reason whatsoever isn't worthy of the death sentence, then what is? And are you seriously claiming multiple robbery is a worse offense than random murder? The multiple robbery is certainly less dangerous.

The only thing you can physically prove is he killed a man. You cannot prove he did it for "no reason whatsoever." You may be able to hint it (ex: multiple beating the man instead of a few blows) but you won't be able to hold enough evidence to convince a jury to give him the death penalty.

And what I meant was... there are far more worser offenses. People with multiple charges of kidnap, rape, or murder are actually let back into society.

Given the comments of person who has had far more experience with this kid its abundantly clear that this was just a random act of violence in the escalating criminal escapades of this child. Twas only a matter of time before something of this caliber was shown and the target alone suggests that the perp was looking for someone that he believed no one would care about. I won't say I think he deserves the death penalty but I do believe that it was a random act of violence.

I alway thought that the concept of an outlaw should have been reinstated for cases like this. It would be especially fitting considering what he did and that target that he chose.
