it's a different feeling when you ARE in the ocean , and it's different when you're on shore looking at it.

but you don't really comprehend the vastness of the ocean, unless you look at it from shore..... i think.

they're both love. it's just one has more angst than the other.

ahaha. great metaphor JLee, but yummy brings up an awesome point. Both are love, like someone said earlier, it's the feeling that really matters, even if you dont recieve it back. It's just that much better when you do get it back tho...well...i guess it's kind of like giving someone a christmas gift and seeing them smile. Its good to get a gift, but its so much better to give a gift.

The main difference between the two phrases is negligible. It's just semantics. I mean, why do inflammable and flammable mean the same thing? You can be "in love" with someone without them loving you back. And you can also love someone without them loving you back. They are functionally identical.

you could also love a person as a friend, brother, sister, parent, etc. so love has way too many variations to its meaning. on the subject of love, i thought that i sort of knew what love is all about but i just realized today i didnt while talking to my friend, i've never even heard of anyone having a happy marriage, happy as in they actually like the way things are. not saying that its impossible or anything, but i've yet to know anyone who has. of course every relationship has its problems and i guess i know the literal meaning of love but havent experienced "true love" yet, though i think i was really close once.

brother: do you believe in love?
    me: define "love" for me.
brother: the movement of ions through the cellular membrane of neurons.
    me: hahahahaha

just thought to point that out :P
that was what acutally started this thread, btw.

no one cares for love anymore. It's just a phase in life.

Like is when you're interested in a person and love is what you get when you've had a relationship with someone for a few months or more. That's why you know if you love your family or not since the average person lives with their family for years.

Can't say much more than that. I'm in highschool and it's a known fact that highschoolers and below don't really know what love is. Well most at least. =p

Because flammable is built from the root words flame and able and means "able to catch fire", while inflammable is built from the root words inflame and able and means "able to be imbued with flame". If inflammable had been constructed in the other order, flammable + in, it would mean "not able to catch fire".
