i always say I dislike my mom and dad but I love them. So maybe liking someone is liking certain things or aspects about them, while love is unconditional. You love someone because you can't help it. Because you've been close for so long, and have had so many experiences with them, that you cannot do anything but love them.

You're probably thinking loving a relative is different than loving someone who isn't related, but I think its much the same. Like Csuti's friend said willingness to sacrifice alot of things for that person is part of love. Its really hard to pin point.

to clarify, you like someone for their positive characteristics, but you love someone for simply existing no matter who they are. Awful or kind. ugly or beautiful.

Even if I was in or out of love I wouldn't notice for quite a while.

I mean, how deep would you have to like someone to be counted as love?
In or out of love? See, that imo is "like" not "love." Thus i believe another confusion between the two. If you truly love someone, you dont stop loving them. When you like someone, eventually that infatuation tends to go away after you really really get to know them or so.

P.s. YES! Someone else likes Snow Patrol!
i think more ppl like snow patrol than you know...ahaha. i like 'em.

i really like your friend's saying

i don't think there is a way to "define" what love is though

    Just as a thought.
Maybe on that borderline there's a spot where you suddenly have the thought of what your kids may be called. Or what the wedding would be like.

    That happened to me once.
Shocked me badly. Partly because I'm not exactly a wedding person.

And um- the piercing thing was just random. I felt the need to ask and there wasn't much making a thread.

@Deuce- Yeh, but I mean, you don't have to be permenantly in love with someone forever and ever.
There're couples that are genuinely in love sometimes, and still end up splitting up over time.

    Wow, that's pretty sad...

    On topic:
for me "like" is too ephemeral, and I've never felt love (unless I count myself I guess). So it's pretty hard for me to define these terms.

On subject...Like and love are definitely different things.

With love, it's true that you would sacrifice everything for the well-being of your other in a heartbeat. With like, you want that feeling but when push comes to shove you may not take that leap.

There is a big difference between wanting love and actually having it.

When you want love you just want to make your other happy, even if it hurts you, you don't care. You want the feeling and often think you have it. By the end of the relationship you're both so self-absorbed in thinking that you have love that you're more concentrated on its appearance rather than its true meaning. You get lost in that and even lose yourself. That's not love..it's dangerous infatuation.

I think that when you really love someone, you take regard to their feelings, but don't forget about yours in doing so. You'll disagree on a lot and go through the same shit every other relationship goes through. The difference is that when you really love someone...you make it through those ruts, even when you don't know how it'll end up.

That sounds like something from experience.

But realistically, love is just that chemical hormones and all that gives you those feelings isn't it?
It isn't magic, or anything- so science says.
I just like the idea of love being magic :3

That a pretty good saying, and basically my views on love in a nutshell. I know i do say the word to often in just common conversation. It's a habit i'm working on braking.

then explain why your heart aches when you have problems with the person you love or when you miss someone. I believe there are things shouldnt be explained and just accepted. Love being one of them.
